Machine Learning Scientist / Engineer NLP / GenAI Foundation Models

ALTEA Healthcare is a leading healthcare organization committed to revolutionizing the delivery of outpatient / post-acute care.

We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Scientist / Engineer with deep subject matter expertise in NLP / GenAI Foundation Models to join our team.

As an important member of the AI team, this person will contribute significantly to designing, implementing, and deploying GenAI applications, whether leveraging off-the-shelf technologies or building from scratch, to improve care delivery and quality for post-acute patients.

The ideal candidate will bring technical mastery, fluency with foundation models, genuine interest in the medical domain, and strong critical thinking skills to the role.

Responsibilities :

• Design and develop the next generation of NLP, ML & AI products, and services for healthcare, and work with MLEs and software engineers to ship them into production.
• Improve processes and tools to generate ground truth for building models
• Lead the model evaluation processes that ensure accuracy, fairness, and reproducibility
• Implement and design novel LM approaches inspired by relevant literature
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field and implement state-of-the-art models from the literature for benchmarking
• Document model architectures, design decisions, and codebase to facilitate future maintenance and enhancements
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results within project timelines

Requirements :

• Master's or PhD degree in ML, NLP, information retrieval, or a related field
• Experience with state-of-the-art NLP algorithms and AI models
• Demonstrated experience with LLM techniques, including prompt optimization and parameter-efficient fine-tuning
• Demonstrated experience building foundation models
• 3+ years of experience training / pre-training / fine-tuning NLP / GenAI models
• Demonstrated experience experimenting / building architecture layers in neural networks and constructing customized loss functions
• Demonstrated experience with RAG, model distillation, reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF)
• Experience with small and large language models, and multi-modal LLMs
• Familiarity with NLP similarity metrics and LLM-based evaluation frameworks (RAGAS)
• Extensive experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch, HuggingFace, Transformers, LangChain, vectorDB and cloud platforms (Azure)
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results within project timelines
• Experience with the full ML system development, deployment, and maintenance lifecycle is a plus
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a plus
• Experience with medical BERT-based models is a plus (e.g., ClinicalBERT, MedBERT, bioClinicalROBERTa)
