School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 16,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions.

With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools.

It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is looking for qualified Elementary Support Teachers for 1.0 FTE Continuing positions at various elementary schools throughout the district, from Pitt Meadows to Whonnock.

Prospective candidates for these positions must be willing to undergo a prescreening by Learning Services. Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a strong collaborative team and have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.

The applicant will possess :

Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch,

Successful teaching experience and coursework in special education that includes assessment, adapting and modifying curriculum and teaching students with special needs,

A Degree or Diploma in special education would be preferred, as would additional coursework in behaviour, learning disabilities, or other specific areas of special education and / or experience working with students with special needs,

The ability to design, adapt and modify curriculum; write, implement and evaluate positive behaviour support plans and strategies, as well as IEP’s;

conduct assessment (including Level B tests); teach function life skills; use technology to support student needs; and to coordinate and facilitate the work of Education Assistants.
