Job Description

Our client in the Executive banking industry is looking for a Director of Financial Control to join their team on a full time permanent basis.

The Vice President of Financial Control will oversee the development and upkeep of control frameworks that support the regular production of financial statements and other valuable business insights.

This includes areas such as cost accounting, budgeting, compensation, and product profitability analysis. They will assess and refine controls and processes to optimize operations and generate versatile accounting data.

Roles and Responsibilities Accounting :

  • Tasked with developing, maintaining, and evaluating all risk Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and their measurement methodologies.
  • Leverages a deep understanding of the business and its transactions to ensure all financial activities are processed and recorded accurately.
  • Possesses an advanced knowledge of audit and accounting controls to prevent compliance issues.
  • Demonstrates awareness of industry best practices to enhance efficiencies and strengthen financial controls.
  • Employs information technology to streamline transaction processing and control effectively. Communicates accounting and control issues clearly.
  • Ensures the optimal operation of Oracle applications, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Fixed Assets modules.
  • Coordinates with auditors to facilitate the audit of the bank’s financial statements and tax filings Regulatory Reporting :
  • Ensures the prompt delivery of all required regulatory, internal, and external reports, including the periodic internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process validation report.
  • Maintains precise records for both Canadian and Japanese financial reporting to satisfy the demands of both regulatory bodies and the parent bank.
  • Serves as a key local registration officer for the OSFI Regulatory Reporting System (RRS), managing the submission of regulatory return information to authorities such as OSFI and the Bank of Canada.
  • Prepares reports and presentations for dissemination to OSFI, advisory bodies, and other stakeholders.

Financial Controls :

  • Charged with the development and upkeep of appropriate financial and product controls.
  • Establishes and maintains control structures for the Canada Branch that support the regular preparation of financial statements in line with GAAP and other essential business information.

Regularly tests controls to ensure that certifications on internal controls are achievable.

Tax Filing :

  • Ensures the bank's tax filings are completed accurately and punctually.
  • Serves as the local Tax Compliance officer, adhering to requirements.

Policy & Training :

  • Keeps the Accounting function's Policy and Procedure Manual current and updated.
  • Is responsible for the training, mentoring, and oversight of the Accounting team members. Qualifications and Skills
  • Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, mathematics, or business discipline.
  • CPA / CA designation.
  • 3 years prior experience with one of the big 4 audit firms in Canada.
  • 3 years accounting experience with a bank, preferably a Schedule III bank in Canada.
  • 2 years prior experience leading and managing a team.
