Position and Responsibilities

Supporting the Chief Operating Engineer, you will provide leadership, guidance, technical instruction and quality control for the powerhouse shift operating engineers, the utilities operator and the emergency systems operator to ensure safe, continuous, effective, and efficient operation of the powerhouse and utilities systems in accordance with the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act, the Operating Engineers Regulation 219 / 01, and the TSSA.

You will participate in the coordination and supervision of pressure vessel inspections by regulatory and insurance inspectors.

Responsibilities will include :

• Assist in the supervision of the operation and maintenance of the powerhouse.
• Assist in the development of the annual operating budget.
• Responsible for the maintenance and update of existing Standard Operating Procedures and Training Manuals to ensure procedures and practices meet company safety policy and comply with all applicable regulations.
• Ensure operating procedures and training manuals are reviewed by powerhouse personnel.
• Monitor group to identify areas of deficiency in operating procedures and training and address accordingly.
• Participate in the equipment life cycle asset replacement program.
• Daily reviews and input on operating log sheets and trend analysis.
• Provide daily oversight of the refinery HVAC systems.
• Monitor sewage treatment plant.
• Conduct routine visual inspections of field piping and connections.
• Issue and approve maintenance work orders.
• Attend to daily maintenance activities in conjunction with work planning and scheduling.
• Assist with the activities of contractor service persons for major equipment and systems in the powerhouse, utilities areas, and for the fire protection systems.
• Provide support and assistance to the utility and emergency systems operator.
• Provide casual relief for the shift operating engineers by operating high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment according to the Pressure Vessels Act and Operating Engineer Regulations and operates the water filtration system and water treatment plant.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position :

• 2nd Class Operating Engineer
• Currently working towards obtaining a 1st Class Operating Engineer
• Five to eight years of relevant industry experience
• Effective communication and critical thinking skills

Assets :

• Class II Wastewater Certificate
• Exposure to predictive maintenance techniques and technologies
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
