About the Shaw Festival
Inspired by the spirit of Bernard Shaw, the Shaw Festival is one of North America’s finest repertory theatres. Nestled in the heart of the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, located on the banks of Lake Ontario, The Shaw is twenty minutes away from Niagara Falls, and less than a two-hour drive to Toronto.
The Shaw Festival is a place where people who are curious about the world gather to share the unique experience of live theatre and to create a deeper human connection with the artists, the beauty and abundance of Niagara and with each other.
Position : Stage Manager Seasonal Contract
Pay Range : $1600 minimum / week, customized to align with the successful candidate’s level of expertise
Required : April 30 to October 13, 2024
Stage Management is part of the Creative Management Department and reports directly to the Production Stage Manager and Producer.
This position will include fulfilling the role of Stage Manager for our Cabaret programming (performing in rep up to 5 performances per week), act as an occasional Rehearsal Assistant Stage Manager (8 rehearsals in total) for our production of Candida and will also include stage management understudy tracks.
Responsibilities include , but are not limited to :
- creating a welcoming, supportive work environment,
- organizing and managing the safe, and smooth running of both rehearsals and performances,
- liaising and communicating the production’s needs across all departments,
- creating and maintaining any and all paperwork required to ensure the safe running of a show,
- running Understudy Rehearsals.
Qualifications and Skills
- a member of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association,
- 7 years of experience working professionally in Stage Management,
- exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills,
- have a thoughtful and precise approach to their stage management practice, while being able to adapt to and work as part of a team,
- responds well to high pressure situations,
- comfortable working outdoors,
- experience working in a unionized theatre (IATSE) is an asset.
Must be willing to live in the Niagara area. Assistance with finding housing will be provided.
