Musical Director-Training Centre

The Second City is accepting resumes for teaching musicians and music directors for its Toronto based Training Centre.

Job Description :

Music teachers at The Second City are responsible for teaching comedic, theatrical music improvisation to students across a wide demographic.

Teaching music directors are also hired to teach songwriting, and to accompany and sound design student shows. Classes occur every day of the week, and scheduling is very flexible.

Our music directors teach in person and online, according to their comfort level and personal technical set up. Training provided as needed.

Successful candidates will have :

• Great piano skills, with experience in playing many styles and genres.
• An understanding of, or willingness to train in, comedy and comedic, theatrical improvisation.
• Experience in teaching, either privately or in the classroom; ability to execute a curriculum.
• Comfort with a Digital Audio Workstation (Logic, Abelton, Garageband etc.).
• Comfort with songwriting and an understanding of theatrical lyric writing.
• Readiness to up train on any skill; and the ability to take direction from senior staff on any skill throughout their time with the company.
• Familiarity with cue to cue software (such as QLab) is a plus.
• Energy, positivity, and an understanding of the yes, and’ ethic of the company.

Compensation Teaching rate of pay begins at $57 CAD / hr.

Compensation is based on part-time hourly employment and will not exceed 30 hours per week.
