The Emergency Mental Health Team is part of the Emergency Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and provides exemplary mental health care for patients in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment.
Services include comprehensive addiction and mental health assessment, short-term intervention and treatment. Also includes coordination of community outpatient follow-up and facilitation of admission when required.
The Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides care for patients in accordance with AHS Addiction & Mental Health Principles of Care, the standards of practice of CRNA / CRPNA.
The Emergency Mental Health Team is committed to the alleviation of stigma and discrimination related to mental health and addiction.
The principles of person-centered nursing, recovery and trauma informed care is foundational to this specialized nursing practice.
As a member of the inter-professional team, the RN / RPN is responsible for the provision of quality, holistic, specialized nursing care for adult patients with complex mental illnesses.
The RN / RPN provides safe, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and completes assessments, plans and organizes treatment / therapeutic interventions, documents and evaluates interventions.
The RN / RPN models professional leadership and provides decision-making support by collaborating and delegating within the inter-professional team.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability.
You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.
You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.PLEASE NOTE : Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $ - $ Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS / UNA Article or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications :
Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications : Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated knowledge and skill related to crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (or successful completion as part of clinical orientation).
Demonstrated leadership, superior problem solving, critical thinking skills and strong team building skills. Interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
Knowledge of psychopharmacology, including current psychotropic medications and side effects. Knowledge of community resources.
Familiarity with Connect Care.
