What qualifications are we looking for?

Experience working with children and adults to facilitate inclusion within outdoor based programs
Experience leading and / or supervising counsellors in outdoor focused programs
Previous experience working with people of all abilities and a solid understanding of the integration process
Previous seasons working as a Program Lead is preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months) at minimum
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and responsibilities :
- Working with the different departments at camp, to ensure all departments are aware and prepared for user groups prior to their arrival;
- Overseeing the staff training plans for all staff working throughout the season;
- Support group development and creative a positive learning environment for all campers and staff;
- Counsellor support and supervision of 30 - 40 staff;
- Develop a team through training, supervising, and providing feedback, both positive and constructive to each staff member;
- Education and encouraging healthy behaviours in campers and staff, including risk management, outdoor and community living, and physical skills and literacy;
- Provide leadership that ensures program quality, and the delivery of excellent service;
- Overseeing the daily program for camp groups including making changes due to weather, staff and program availability, and group situations as they arise;
- Support of campers through behaviour management and parent / group leader contact;
- Communicating with camper families, to coordinate details of the group (arrival and departure dates, cost / fees for the program, meals, staffing needs, accommodations, etc.).
Program Coordinators will work in the outdoors for the majority of each day. Program Coordinators will need to lift program supplies, walk, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
Program Coordinators will need to be prepared for all weather conditions, with the appropriate clothing, equipment, and footwear.
Accommodations are in tipis or staff housing.
By design Program Coordinator positions can be physically taxing requiring extended periods of walking and standing and participating in physical activities and games.
The position will require moderate bending, lifting and repetitive movements as needed during Camp programs. Additionally, this position will have periods of time working in front of a computer monitor.
