What you will do :

  • Provide nutrition and dietary advice to community members, providers and staff through treatment, education plans and wellness prescriptions.
  • Collaborate with other interdisciplinary providers to manage a caseload of community members with a broad range of conditions using evidence-based interventions.
  • Provide education and dietary support to community members in a variety of program areas.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition support services across The Alex, aimed at improving standards of care.
  • Provide recommendations to Alex providers regarding medication changes for the nutritional management of community members, based on interpretation of biochemical, physiological, and dietary requirements.
  • Implement all aspects of effective clinical governance for own practice, including regular audit and evaluation, supervision, and training.
  • Ensure safe practice through the recognition and appreciation of clinical governance.
  • Support clients with difficult dietary and lifestyle changes using behaviour change techniques (ie. active listening, motivational and negation skills).
  • Provide relevant and timely specialist advice and guidance on dietary modification, nutritional supplements, and their use.
  • Update, maintain, organize, gather, and analyze information to predict / meet future organizational and program needs.
  • In collaboration with the Kitchen Coordinator, guide meal planning, and food related programming aimed at individuals with chronic health conditions.
  • Facilitate and / or co-facilitate educational, fun and motivational nutrition group programming.
  • Provide support regarding the use of food & snacks in Community Wellness Initiative programming.
  • Participate in team meeting and actively contribute to a healthy team culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring :

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Food Science (or equivalent)
  • Active registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta; incumbent will be responsible to maintain and provide proof of active registration and practice
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare or related setting
  • Experience as a group facilitator and knowledge of adult learning principles is considered an asset
  • Experience incorporating mindful eating and mindfulness practices into counselling is considered an asset
  • Food Safety Certification within 3 months of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and community-focused environment
  • Experience working with volunteers; supervisory skills an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with marginalized people and people of diverse cultures
  • First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and Child Intervention Check are required
  • Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) 94 Calls to Action is an asset
  • Willingness to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks

Working Environment :

  • The Alex Community Health Centre : -2 Ave SE
  • 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours / week)
  • Standard hours 8 : 30 4 : 30 pm; Monday to Friday; some flexibility in schedule available.
  • Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking (sometimes up or down stairwells)
  • Occasional physical activity requiring the ability to bend / crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel / crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 lbs.) throughout shift
