Position Information Position Title Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF), Health Policy Analysis Posting Number PTAP2209P Department / Unit Political Science Location All Campuses / Sites, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities One-year Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) position is available in the area of health policy analysis.

This position will collaborate with researchers across multiple institutions on a CIHR-funded research project titled 'Upstream determinants of effective COVID-19 response : learning from comparisons across Canada's provinces.

The position will analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative evidence and data collected by investigators in BC, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia to identify learnings resulting from cross-province comparisons.

The primary activities of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow include :

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis. This will primarily focus on data collected by the provincial teams, although, as needed, some additional data collection could be required.
  • Synthesize findings and develop comparative analyses across the project provinces in collaboration with provincial team leads
  • Contribute to academic papers (with the aim to produce at least 2 first-author papers)

Errors made could influence the ability of the research team to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of the research project, and therefore impact the credibility of the Investigators.

Poor decisions may be damaging to the reputation of the Investigators, and the Universities involved and could lead to incorrect or inappropriate policy recommendations being made.

This position will be responsible for access, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the relevant privacy and security policies.

This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed, and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.

Supervision Received : The incumbent will report directly to the provincial team leads, Drs. Peter Berman (UBC), Sara Allin (Ontario), Lara Gautier & Amelie Quesnel-Vallee (Quebec), and Katherine Fierlbeck (Nova Scotia).

Supervision Given : The incumbent is not expected to be responsible for any direct supervisory roles but will work collaboratively with members from each provincial team.

Qualifications / Requirements of Position Education / Work Experience : The candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.

g. public health or health policy).Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiar with public health structures and experiences in Canada.
  • Experienced in quantitative data analysis with statistical software such as STATA.
  • Experienced in qualitative data (interviews, focus groups, etc.) analysis using NVivo.
  • Proven experience (publications) in research and implementation work in health economics, health policy, public health, or health systems.

First-author publications preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to identify and relate to the concerns of others and to exercise good judgment when resolving difficulties.
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

Job Requirements : Must currently be legally able to work in Canada. Bilingual (French) is strongly preferred.
