BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is hiring a Senior Analyst Data Visualization Specialist.

Role Summary

The Senior Analyst - Data Visualization Specialist is responsible for providing advanced technical leadership and solution architecture in support of analytics and evaluation activities and initiatives.

The position designs leading edge approaches and guides the detailed implementation of these solutions from inception to completion.

The position also contributes to the development and implementation of data analytics and visualization improvement strategies to ensure that the BI environment and systems are working efficiently in order to improve transactional and reporting activities.

The Data Visualization Specialist provides input to the overall goals, objectives and operations of the department by providing feedback and recommendations specifically with respect to analytics and evaluation issues.

The Data Visualization Specialist works across all levels of the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) providing leadership and support in the area of data analytics, development / maintenance and information reporting via dashboards, scorecards or reports.

What you’ll do

Architects and implements leading edge solutions to develop, enhance and improve the BI solutions. This includes leading the design, creation, documentation and implementation of complex multidimensional cubes, reports and data visualization to a broad array of audiences.

Collaborates with partners and team members on conceptual design of databases and the development and implementation of solutions in the Enterprise Data Warehouse.

Provides technical expertise in the development of Analytics and Business Intelligence Solutions by assessing partner needs / requirements, reviewing technical options, leading, and determining the design and architecture and leading all levels of the solution development and deployment.

Ensures security and permission levels maintain patient, paramedic and data confidentiality.

  • Mentors and collaborates with other developers and team members and provides technical and educational support to BI end users by developing training materials and delivering training sessions.
  • Ensures the designed solutions meet the established architectural, security, and quality standards set by the department by actively engaging peers and leads in design and review processes.

Maintains current metadata, definitions and documentation of the solutions.

  • Produces high quality research reports and dashboards on subjects related to BCEHS and identifies issues with data. Takes initiative in working out optimal solutions with appropriate partners to improve accuracy, timeliness, connectivity and other issues related to data.
  • Maintains familiarity with the latest technologies and an awareness of current information system trends and issues. Evaluates and recommends methods to deliver data visualization in an accurate, timely and user-friendly manner.

What you bring

Qualifications

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Science, Business, Computer Science or related program from a recognized school plus a minimum of five (5) years of recent work experience preferably in a health care environment or information management.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience in the development and maintenance of popular BI platforms including Power BI and Tableau.
  • High level of expertise in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas in simple language.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform accurate advanced data manipulation, analysis and information presentation using Microsoft Office suite, database and statistical software.
  • Ability to interpret management reporting, data management concepts and processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and system analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational problems and recommend innovative solutions.
  • Self-directed and motivated to learn new technology (including hardware, software applications and programming applications) and stay up-to-date on new analytics solutions.
  • Can identify and implement creative data visualizations for specific end-user needs.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to be customer service focused.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Python knowledge, design background and / or experience is an asset.

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity

  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, including knowledge, and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism and anti-racism.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team / department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams / departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

While BCEHS would consider a foundation in Indigenous cultural safety to be a strong asset for consideration, our commitment to enhancing Indigenous cultural safety includes providing all employees with access to resources and training programs in partnership with San'yas Core Health Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training.

Salary Range : $74,618 - $107,264

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
