About Acorn : At Acorn PLMS, we are on a mission to transform the corporate learning experience. Our cutting-edge Performance Learning Management System (PLMS) software is powered by AI and designed to ensure that what people learn directly contributes to their exceptional performance in business. Corporate performance and learning needs a revolution, and Acorn PLMS is the antidote. We are the only solution that guides learners step by step to master the specific capabilities required for their roles, ultimately accelerating organisational performance.

We are open to individuals based in Vancouver, Canada – this is an in-office role .

About The Role

The Senior DevOps + Customer Implementation Engineer is responsible for strengthening, automating, and scaling the infrastructure that powers Acorn’s learning and performance platform. Sitting within the Engineering team, this role also has a dotted-line relationship to the North American Customer Success and Delivery teams to directly support customer implementations across SSO, SFTP, and data feed integrations.

You will work extensively across our AWS ecosystem, particularly Cognito, S3, ECS, and Lambda to uplift and automate core workflows such as authentication setup, HRIS and SFTP data feed integrations, and new site provisioning. This role blends light customer-facing technical guidance with deep platform engineering. You will act as the engineering owner for the systems, tooling, and processes that enable seamless onboarding for strategic accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and uplift Acorn’s AWS-based integration infrastructure, focusing on automation, reliability, and scalability
  • Improve, maintain, and extend integration tooling used by internal teams (SSO setup utilities, feed processing pipelines, provisioning scripts, etc.)
  • Implement enhancements to authentication and provisioning workflows, with a strong emphasis on repeatability and automation
  • Lead the uplift of our HR feed integration codebase - improving performance, error handling, observability, maintainability, and documentation
  • Build and maintain secure, automated pathways for creating new Acorn PLMS sites and environments

Customer Implementation Support

  • Partner with Customer Delivery and Success teams - including Strategic Account Managers and Implementation Specialists - to troubleshoot and support customer-specific technical integrations.
  • Provide expert guidance during customer onboarding for SSO, SFTP, API usage, and data feed configuration, especially for strategic accounts
  • 12Help internal teams diagnose integration issues by improving logging, monitoring, and diagnostic tooling
  • Contribute to internal documentation and playbooks for integration workflows and implementation patterns
  • Automation & Tooling

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual steps and build automation that accelerates customer onboarding
  • Create internal CLI tools, scripts, and microservices that streamline integration processes end-to-end
  • Enhance observability across integration flows (dashboards, alerts, health checks, telemetry)
  • Improve and maintain infrastructure-as-code templates for Cognito, networking, provisioning, and tenant creation
  • Security & Reliability

  • Ensure AWS Cognito, authentication surfaces, and integration pathways remain secure, stable, and aligned with best practices
  • Contribute to resilience improvements across integration pipelines—including data ingestion, authentication, and provisioning
  • Participate in incident analysis and strengthen infrastructure to prevent recurrence
  • Required Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services such as Cognito, Lambda, IAM, SQS, DynamoDB, ECS / Fargate, and API Gateway.
  • Experience designing and operating infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation).
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to accelerate development.
  • Solid understanding of authentication and identity standards (SAML, OIDC, SCIM, OAuth 2.0).
  • Experience working with SFTP, file-based integrations, ETL pipelines, or HRIS data ingestion.
  • Experience deploying or integrating AI / LLM components (e.g. vector stores, RAG-style retrieval, or model-backed services) into production systems; familiarity with MCP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS architectures is a strong plus.
  • 5 Key Capabilities

The best part… we use Acorn for Acorn. We believe in the power of our Managers and Staff being aligned on the 5 capabilities needed for each role, and the level that we expect for any given role, using our Acorn AI tool to streamline this consistently across our business. The 4 levels comprise Foundational, Developing, Proficient, and Advanced.

Here are the 5 capabilities for our Senior DevOps + Customer Implementation Engineer to give you an idea of what the role entails, and the level we are looking for from it :

  • Design Secure Infrastructure : Design, enhance, and maintain secure, reliable infrastructure components to support scalable authentication, data flows, and provisioning, enabling consistent performance and reducing operational risk across implementations. Proficiency – Advanced : At the Advanced stage, you shape architectural direction for secure, scalable systems. You address complex cross-domain challenges with minimal guidance. This improves long-term platform stability and implementation success.
  • Automate Operational Workflows : Identify inefficiencies, remove manual steps, and build automation that improves onboarding flow, observability, and stability, enabling repeatable processes and reducing the need for engineering intervention. Proficiency – Advanced : At the Advanced stage, you architect automation frameworks that scale across environments and teams. You handle complex dependencies with minimal guidance. This drives operational excellence and long-term efficiency.
  • Engineer Integrations & Support Implementation : Implement, troubleshoot, and improve data feeds, authentication flows, and integration pathways to ensure reliable onboarding while providing clear technical support to internal stakeholders. Proficiency – Advanced : At the Advanced stage, you lead integration design improvements and resolve complex, high-impact issues. You operate across teams with minimal guidance. This improves onboarding quality and reduces escalations.
  • Partner Across Teams : Collaborate with Engineering, Customer Success, Delivery, and Product to share knowledge, communicate technical concepts clearly, and support scalable onboarding processes. Proficiency – Advanced : At the Advanced stage, you influence cross-functional planning and communication patterns. You anticipate impacts across teams with minimal guidance. This enables scalable, repeatable onboarding processes.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement : Strengthen core infrastructure domains by identifying opportunities to uplift design, reduce operational overhead, and improve resilience across authentication, data ingestion, and provisioning workflows. Proficiency – Advanced : At the Advanced stage, you drive long-term improvements that reshape core systems. You anticipate future needs with minimal guidance. This reduces operational risk and strengthens platform scalability.
