Located in the Oakridge area of Vancouver, B.C., Louis Brier Home and Hospital is a 215‑bed accredited long‑term care facility situated next to the Weinberg Residence, which is home to 40 Assisted Living and 20 Multilevel Care residents.

Purpose of the Position

The Jewish Values and Traditions Program Coordinator develops, coordinates, and implements programs, resident / staff education, events, and holiday celebrations that promote Jewish heritage, culture, and values, meeting the needs of the Jewish community at Louis Brier Home and Hospital. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisors and the Allied Health Manager, the Coordinator liaises and collaborates with Jewish organizations, associations, service leaders, and community members to provide culturally rich programming and education opportunities both on and off‑site for residents. The Coordinator ensures successful program / education delivery by planning activities, preparing materials, setting up spaces, portering residents, and following outlined schedules. This role involves actively engaging participants, encouraging involvement, and adapting activities to meet diverse needs through a Jewish lens. The Coordinator also documents participant engagement and provides feedback to supervisors to support ongoing program improvement and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate with Jewish community members, organizations, associations, synagogues and service leaders to implement Jewish programs / outings / education / services / holidays / events.
  • Coordinate the completion of tasks prior to Jewish holidays and events.
  • Attend ritual committee meetings, coordinating and collaborating with members to establish holidays and event schedules.
  • Coordinate with Food Services to implement special holiday / event meals (e.g., Kiddush, Passover Seder).
  • Prepare materials / resources, set up activity spaces, and follow protocols and established schedules in consultation with the recreation supervisors.
  • Plan and implement activities and engage residents and staff around the celebration of the Sabbath and Jewish holidays.
  • Coordinate and implement Jewish values and traditions education for residents and staff around events and holidays.
  • Actively engage participants in group or individual activities, encouraging inclusion, social interaction, and participation.
  • Adapt activities to varying abilities and interests.
  • Prepare for outings and oversee participants’ safety.
  • Coordinate the portering of participants to and from activities with consultation of unit nurses.
  • Provide direction to volunteers during activities.
  • Observe participants’ responses and progress during activities and chart participation engagement.
  • Report concerns or significant observations to relevant clinical staff; chart concerns under direction of clinical staff.
  • Ensure work / activity areas are clean, safe, and organized; clean equipment per health, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and resources, notifying supervisors of items needing replacement or repairs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized recreation program, plus a minimum of 1 year’s recent related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a long‑term care setting.
  • Understanding of aging / gerontology‑based programming an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English and Hebrew.
  • Understanding of Jewish culture, values and traditions.
  • Ability to provide competent and culturally safe care with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including computer software programs.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including lifting over 5 lbs and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers as required.
  • Work schedule : Tuesday to Saturday line. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (9 : 00‑5 : 00); Saturday (8 : 00 a.m. - 4 : 00 p.m.).
  • Pay

    Grid 27 – $31.89 hourly.
