About the Role

We are seeking a Grant Processing Advisor (Claims Specialist) to support provincial child care grant administration initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring claim accuracy, resolving complex inquiries, coordinating recoveries, supporting system enhancements, and providing guidance to internal teams and external childcare providers. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working in high-volume, policy-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

Claims & Customer Support

  • Serve as a key point of contact for childcare providers regarding complex claim, adjustment, advance, and registration inquiries
  • Investigate and resolve online submission errors, payment discrepancies, and customer complaints
  • Apply program, financial, and operational policies to provide accurate guidance and decisions
  • Payment Accuracy & Quality Assurance

  • Monitor system-generated pre-payment quality assurance reports
  • Coordinate and track post-payment verification activities
  • Identify errors, anomalies, or potential fraud in submitted claims
  • Prepare claims activity reports using ministry reporting systems
  • Grant Recovery Coordination

  • Manage recovery processes for overpayments and repayment cases
  • Maintain tracking tools and recovery records
  • Issue repayment notices and coordinate follow-ups
  • Escalate complex recovery issues and report recovery progress
  • Information System & Process Support

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance business processes
  • Develop testing scripts and coordinate testing activities for system enhancements
  • Provide input into system improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Supervision & Team Support

  • Support onboarding, training, and supervision of Claims Payment Coordinators
  • Assign tasks, monitor workloads, and identify training or performance gaps
  • Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Liaise with internal ministry branches including Finance, Child Care Delivery, Strategic Technology, and Program Evaluation
  • Maintain positive working relationships with childcare providers and external stakeholders
  • Provide policy-related information and operational clarification as required
  • Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience handling complex claims, financial data, or payment verification
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, reporting)
  • Proficiency with MS Office (2010 or higher)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments
  • Experience prioritizing tasks in high-volume, deadline-driven settings
  • Strong attention to detail with proven decision-making ability
  • Availability to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton as required
  • Preferred Skills

  • Experience supervising or coordinating work for team members
  • Background in public sector programs, grants, or compliance-driven environments
  • Experience identifying system gaps and designing process improvements
  • Work Schedule & Location

  • Hours : Monday–Friday | 8 : 15 AM – 4 : 30 PM (Alberta Time)
  • Lunch : 1 hour
  • Possible Onsite Location : Forestry Building, 9920 108 St NW, Edmonton, AB
