Description
Responsibilities
Independently review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including service agreements and vendor agreements, as well as prepare and update templates and processes for same.
As a shared responsibility with other members of the Legal team, provide primary support to the proposals team and the broader Sales team for responding to RFPs and for contract negotiations and requests for information.
Support identification and implementation of new tools for the Legal team.
Identify and track legal and regulatory issues in customer agreements and product initiatives, including privacy and data security concerns, and work with appropriate resources to identify solutions and mitigate risks.
Assist with other day-to-day legal activities and areas including corporate law and governance, compliance (including regulatory, contract and policy), product development, human resources, procurement law and policy, privacy and cybersecurity issues.
Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments including Sales, Marketing, Product, Technology, Finance, Operations, and HR.
Provide strategic, creative and business-oriented legal advice on a broad range of topics
Contribute to building Paper’s first ever internal legal department.
Qualifications
3-6 years of experience, comprised of a combination of top-tier firm practice and in-house counsel practice (with a minimum of one year in-house experience required).
Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience working at a high-growth technology company; SaaS based is a further asset.
A quick learner with a desire for challenge and professional growth.
Member of a US bar.
Experience in all areas of responsibility described above.
Strong business acumen with the ability to assess and clearly explain legal and business risks and provide practical, strategic, and business-focused advice.
Experienced and comfortable managing negotiations with opposing counsel directly, and liaising with internal stakeholders including senior management.
Knowledgeable regarding student data privacy issues.
Experience working with government customers (or in house for a government entity) would be a definite asset.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, but have a team-player mindset with the ability to work collaboratively across various functions and with colleagues at all levels.
