The role :

Reporting to the Associate Director, FP&A, the Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing major capital project business cases, reviewing minor capital projects, acting as the finance support to Eastern Region, supporting period-end analysis, and assisting with detailed budget and 3-years planning.

The position also needs to work with several stakeholders including Loblaws, store managers, various departments and internal / external auditors.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Preparing business case on major capital investment projects, including store renovations, IT investments, and back up support to new stores development.
  • Reviewing and tracking minor capital investment projects for various areas of the business such as stores, central production centers, support centers and digital team.
  • Assist in coordinating and tracking on company-wide capital expenditure spending. Alert management on each profit center and investment project are spending within the approved limit and on time.

Keep the management posted whenever there is any idle capital resource.

  • Support period-end result analysis for eastern support center stakeholders. Analyze abnormal business results, including different segments of sales, GP and expenses against budget target as well as on the year-to-year growth.
  • Prepare the periodic financial performance review deck and coordinate with business partners to obtain additional comments for management team’s discussion.
  • Support corporate formulating detailed annual budget and 3-years plan during budget cycle, including preparing the ESC department budgets and digital team budget.
  • Acting as the finance support to business departments in ER, assisting them with performance analysis, preparing business case studies, and preparing the detailed budget and 3-years plan.
  • Take part in the various required activities for annual closing on inventory for store and warehouse; coordinate and collaborate with auditors in carrying out inventory, supplies, random and special counts.
  • Perform any other duties or projects as assigned by the superior(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

  • Possess a college degree, major in Accounting or possess an equivalent Accounting Designation (Level 2 CFA) or possess a minimum 3 years of accounting experience
  • Have a track record in delivering results, demonstrate strong ability to work on many tasks simultaneously, prioritize and complete requests in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of the organization and with external stakeholders; with strong written and verbal communication skills in English;

knowledge in Chinese (Cantonese and / or Mandarin) is an asset.

  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to solve problems independently.
  • Demonstrate integrity and teamwork.
  • Able to work under pressure with a focus on accuracy and meeting various deadlines.
  • A self-starter who always takes the initiative to learn and improve.
  • Possess Intermediate to advance level in MS Words and PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
