Industrial Arts Teacher

Bigstone Education Authority seeks a passionate Industrial Arts teacher with Wood Shop and / or Welding expertise to guide our high school students.

The ideal candidate will ignite interest in the skilled trades, provide hands-on learning experiences, and integrate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into their instruction where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities : Wood Shop Instruction Technical Skills : Provide comprehensive instruction in woodworking techniques, including tool and machinery use, joinery, project design, and finishing.

Project-Based Learning : Design engaging projects that allow students to learn practical skills, foster creativity, and potentially incorporate Indigenous designs or traditional woodworking techniques.

Safety Emphasis : Prioritize shop safety, teach proper safety protocols, and always ensure a safe working environment. Welding Instruction Welding Techniques : Teach various welding processes (e.

g., MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.), safe equipment handling, joint preparation, and quality control. Practical Projects : Guide students through welding projects that develop their technical skills and introduce them to real-world applications.

Safety Emphasis : Emphasize strict adherence to safety regulations, equipment use, and protective gear. General Industrial Arts & Skills Development Blueprint Reading : Help students understand technical drawings and blueprints.

Problem-Solving : Promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative solutions to technical challenges. Career Exploration : Expose students to various skilled trades, apprenticeship pathways, and career opportunities related to woodworking and / or welding.

Culturally Relevant Instruction : Where appropriate, integrate Indigenous knowledge, traditional crafts, and artistic elements into project design and technical instruction.

Differentiated Instruction : Employ diverse teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.

Assessment and Evaluation : Develop formative and summative assessments (e.g., projects, presentations, practical demonstrations) to measure student progress.

Classroom Management : Establish a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. Flexibility : Demonstrate a willingness to offer other trade-related CTS (Career and Technology Studies) courses depending on student interest and school needs.

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Education specializing in Industrial Arts, Technology Education, or related field. Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching Wood Shop and / or Welding at a high school level. Strong technical proficiency and safety expertise in woodworking and / or welding practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage diverse learners Commitment to student well-being and fostering a positive learning environment.

Additional Desired Skills Experience integrating technology (e.g., CAD software, CNC machines) into Industrial Arts instruction.

Familiarity with Indigenous art, crafts, or design elements. Knowledge of adolescent development and psychology. Experience leading or supporting extracurricular activities or clubs related to skilled trades.
