Work environment
Remote working is not a possibility with these position(s).
The RCMP requires an experienced mechanic with proven ability to work with a range of vehicles according to stringent best-practice standards.
The right candidate will work in a team to ensure all police vehicle fit-ups activities are carried out on time and at an exceptional standard.
The Post Garage is located at the tip of the Fraser Valley in beautiful Chilliwack, BC with a second location being considered in Langley, BC.
You get the mild Vancouver weather and big city amenities a short drive away, without the expense of living downtown.
The work environment is in a garage setting and mostly performs equipment change overs from retired police vehicles to new ones.
GL employees work a 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday with some flexibility to work variable start times or completing their hours of work over 8 or 9 days instead of 10 in a two week period.

This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.
Intent of the process
A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future permanent or temporary vacancies (including terms, actings, casuals, assignments and secondments) in similar-level positions (at full or part-time hours, including shift-work).
Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of one year and may be extended.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION :
Possession of a valid Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate as an Automotive Service Technician
EXPERIENCE :
1.Experience in the installation of automotive equipment such as radios, stereos and security equipment.
2.Experience in performing repairs to automotive systems such as electrical systems, electronic systems and vehicle computer systems.
3.Experience with routine automotive maintenance such as brake repairs, engine repairs, tune up and chassis repair.
KNOWLEDGE :
1.Knowledge of routine automotive maintenance such as inspection, maintenance repair and overhaul of motor vehicles and components.
2.Knowledge of automotive systems such as electrical, electronic systems and vehicle computer systems.
3.Knowledge of good safety practices.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS :
1.Ability to use specialized automotive testing equipment and interpret the information.

ASSET CRITERIA :
1.Experience installing mobile communication equipment
2.Experience in welding and metal fabricating techniques
3.Experience using a computer for garage management programs and vehicle repair manuals
4.Experience hands-on experience in repairing within the range of the Journeyman’s certification and / or direct experience in the field of first responder vehicle fit-up such as, Police, Ambulance and Fire.
5.Experience hands-on experience in repairing hybrid and / or electric vehicles
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
1.Availability, ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
2.Availability, ability and willingness to travel as required.
3.A driver’s abstract with no more than 2 minor violations in the last 12 months

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool.

This process and the resulting pool will only be used to staff positions in the RCMP.
Incorrect or fraudulent information provided by a candidate during the application or assessment process will result in elimination from the process.
