Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Introduction
Capital Projects Planning and Delivery (CPPD) is a division within the Department of Consumer Protection and Government Services.
CPPD’s core business area responsibilities are Capital planning, technical services support, and the delivery of capital projects for core government departments (excluding the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure, and the Department of Health).
Further responsibilities include Central coordination, negotiation, and implementation of federal-provincial cost-shared capital infrastructure programs and projects.
Conditions of Employment :

- Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Must have a Bachelor-level degree in Electrical Engineering
- Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's license and able to provide a satisfactory Driver's abstract
Qualifications : Essential :
- Experience related to electrical engineering retrofit design of fire alarm, security systems, and / or building electrical retrofits
- Project Management experience in delivering projects from inception to the completion of construction
- Experience leading a diverse technical engineering team responsible for the delivery of engineering analysis, design services and projects
- Knowledge of Canadian codes, standards and engineering principles related to electrical design and construction for buildings
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts
- Written communication skills
- Verbal communication skills
- Decision making skills and the ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative and judgement
- Organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Desired :
- Knowledge and use of design software and computer assisted drafting (including AutoCAD and related software)
- Experience in the preparation of Capital Project budgets and evaluating projects for the Capital Estimates process
- Certification in Project Management
Duties : Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering Section, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for providing professional electrical engineering services for the Branch, the Division, and other departments and agencies of the government.
As a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in the Electrical Engineering Section, this position is responsible for the design, development, coordination, and implementation of Electrical projects within the government inventory.
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will supervise and mentor team members, complete design reviews on a variety of electrical systems.
In addition, this position may be required to assume the Electrical Engineering Managers position if they are away.
