ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4, dedicated staff who serve more than 35, students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph.

The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Upper Grand District School Board is seeking a dynamic Labour Relations Specialist to join our People, Leadership and Culture team and assist in managing the Board’s labour relations activities.

Please note, this is a primarily on-site position with travel requirements to various Board sites as needed.

Location : On-Site. Guelph Board Office ( Victoria Road N., Guelph, ON)

Salary Range : $, - $, (per annum, 40 hours per week, 12 month position)

Board Information : 1.0 FTE; permanent, full-time; Administrative Employees

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Manager Employee and Labour Relations, the successful candidate will provide guidance, direction, and support to supervisors with performance management and labour relations matters.

This will include conducting workplace investigations (inclusive of harassment complaints), preparing and communicating the findings, and providing post-investigation mediation where appropriate.

You will maintain effective union / management relationships and will be responsible for preparing, attending, and representing the Board at mediation, arbitration and hearings as required.

You will assist in preparation and attendance at Collective Bargaining as required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in industrial relations, labour relations or human resources management combined with a CHRP or CHRL designation or qualifications / experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in progressive labour relations roles, in a unionized environment
  • Sound knowledge of, and demonstrated ability
