The Assistive Technology Support Worker falls within the CUPE collective agreement. The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Assistive Technology Support Worker is responsible for assisting school teams by providing specialized knowledge and skills in the implementation of accessible education materials and assistive technology to ensure improved well-being and achievement for students with disabilities and others experiencing barriers to learning.

Consistent with policies of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Halifax Regional Centre for Education, the Assistive Technology Support Worker will work within the Inclusive Education Policy and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework for the delivery of services to students.

The Assistive Technology Support Worker will support the appropriate use of student equipment, technology, and applications (hardware and software).

The Assistive Technology Support Worker will work with students individually and in small groups within the school setting to teach them how to maximize assistive technology for increased well-being and achievement.

Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, the Assistive Technology Support Worker will demonstrate a strong commitment to the school improvement process in support of student learning and reports directly to the Facilitator, Student Services.

Qualifications

  • A Degree or Diploma in Disability Supports and Services or acceptable equivalent;
  • Demonstrated competency using voice to text and text to voice programs such as Google Read and Write and Google suite of applications;
  • Valid Drivers License and daily access to a vehicle;
  • Knowledge, understanding, and demonstrated aptitude in Assistive Technology and software used in schools for students is required;
  • Experience working in school settings with children and youth is required;
  • Experience delivering professional learning to groups is considered an asset.

Rate of Pay :

This is a 10-month position with a work schedule in accordance with the school year calendar which includes time off at Christmas, March Break and Summer break.

The starting annual salary is $35,817.70 including 4% vacation pay. Rates are based on a five (5) step scale with step increases occurring annually in accordance with the Collective Agreement as shown below.

Assistive Technology Support Workers are paid every two weeks with the annual salary paid across 12 months (August 1st to July 31st) for working a 10-month school year.

The annual salary for term positions less than a school year is pro-rated over the length of the term.

This position is eligible for mileage reimbursement.
