About the position :

Reporting to the Vice President, Children and Youth Services, the Director of Operations, Children and Youth Services is responsible for providing leadership and support to multiple Early Years and School Age Child Care programs and staff.

This leadership position requires strategic thinking, independent action, and flexibility to navigate and respond effectively to diverse demands within programs.

The Director is instrumental in providing insight and support to the operating plan for the branch and assisting in attaining growth objectives.

The role not only involves day to day management but requires providing input to strategic decisions and assisting the Vice President, Children and Youth Services in navigating the complexities of program management in a dynamic and growth-oriented environment.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Operational Leadership : Provide strategic leadership in the day-to-day operations of multiple child care and implement process improvements to enhance day-to-day program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement to ensure the delivery of high-quality child care programs
  • Financial Acumen : Ensure fiscal responsibility by assisting in the planning and administering the branch's annual operating budget of approximately $ 10-13 million dollars.

This includes assessing variances, forecasting and making recommendations to address current and future expenditures. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.

  • Cultivating Excellence : Empower and inspire direct reports and their teams to embody excellence and a deep dedication to children’s well- ongoing management of employees, providing support and coaching to direct reports and their teams in matters related to programming, hiring, staff performance issues, conflict resolution, and staff engagement a harmonious and collaborative work culture, driving professional development and growth opportunities for the conflicts and promote positive branch culture through effective interpersonal skills and effective leadership.
  • Quality Assurance : Ensure that both YMCA Playing to Learn and A Place to Connect national curriculums are that all branch policies, procedures, practices, processes, and systems comply with applicable legislation and licensing the delivery of high-quality programs and services that meet Provincial, Federal and YMCA requirements and standards.
  • Community Connection : Develop and maintain partnerships with different key stakeholder groups to support YMCA Child Care growth opportunities for child care while enhancing the YMCA’s reputation as a service challenges in cultivating and maintaining relationships with community partners and key stakeholders and navigate and resolve any issues that may arise.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • 10+ years multidiscipline management experience
  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent University Degree in a related discipline or combination of relevant education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate multiple staff teams in satellite locations
  • Good judgement and sound decision making in resolving complex issues
  • Proven experience with stakeholder and partner engagement
  • Well versed in child development and child care programming and leadership.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with our diverse families, staff, volunteers, community stakeholders and partners, as well as demonstrated experience and sensitivity in dealing with people of different backgrounds and minority communities
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
