Position Summary
The Volunteer Services Advisor will have a deep understanding of Human Resources and work as part of a team that is focused on providing strategic support and guidance to the Stampede’s over 2,500 dedicated volunteers and their staff partners. Working closely with the Volunteer Services team under the oversight of the Director, Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Services Advisor will be responsible for building successful relationships with volunteers, managing a broad variety of volunteer and volunteer committee matters and facilitating resolutions and support for the volunteers and committees.

Responsibilities
- Support the governance and strategic direction of the organization by facilitating the delivery of the volunteer program and supporting the advancement of volunteer engagement and volunteer / employee engagement strategies and initiatives
- Recommend and support new and ongoing volunteer-related processes, policies, and procedures with an opportunity to lead projects and initiatives
- Liaise with committees to understand how they work and develop partnerships
- Partner with committee leaders to provide proactive HR guidance on people strategies, succession planning and talent development
- Assist committees with developing appropriate role descriptions and terms of reference, based on committee needs
- Act as the first point of contact for committee leaders and volunteers on volunteer relations matters, providing guidance on performance management, conflict resolution and workplace issues. Where required, conduct investigations in alignment with the objectives of the organization
- Monitor, support, motivate and recognize volunteers and their work
- Assist in the development of presentation materials and delivery of volunteer and staff liaison training and orientation sessions
- Draft communications in alignment with the Stampede’s practices and management’s direction, including researching and developing article content for volunteer newsletters / notices that celebrate volunteering and highlight volunteers
- Assist in the development and coordination of volunteer events
- Promote volunteering internally and externally
- Conduct volunteer exit interviews as directed
- Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Services Advisor team to manage the volunteer inbox
- Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Services team to assist with committee and event volunteer onboarding processes, database management and maintenance
- Work collaboratively with the Manager, Systems & Accreditation and the Accreditation team to ensure volunteer accreditation during the Stampede festival is accurate, with appropriate access given to volunteers. This role will assist with solutioning any concerns that may arise during that timeframe
- Attend meetings and events as appropriate. On occasion, some evening and weekend meeting attendance may be required
- Other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications :
Undergraduate Degree or Certificate in Human Resource Management, Volunteer Management, Business Administration or another related field from a recognized post-secondary institute. Combination of education and experience will be accepted3 plus years’ experience as a Human Resources Generalist. Experience as a volunteer coordinator or other equivalent / complementary experience will also be consideredPrevious experience designing and facilitating adult learning programs an assetCPHR designation is an assetExperience establishing and maintaining productive client relationsThorough understanding of organizational governance practicesStrong problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills are requiredDemonstrated success in change management in order to influence outcomes and drive success of volunteer related initiativesAbility to provide coaching and guidance on volunteer relations issues as well as knowledge of workplace investigation techniquesAbility to build strong relationships with stakeholders with varied perspectives.Ability to facilitate and / moderate meetings with volunteers and stakeholders at various levels of the organizationExperience providing support to volunteer communities would be an assetBenefits
