What you’ll do

• Develop, implement and evaluate art therapy programs for clients; reviews client records, interviews client and / or family, assesses needs / goals, creates an intervention plan, evaluates the effectiveness of the plan / intervention and documents art therapy care.
• Receive referrals from a variety of internal / external sources; gather information from referral source / client / other relevant persons, evaluate / screen information, visit clients on wards to identify priority of service and recommends alternative treatment sources as required.
• Provide art therapy services; encourage and assist clients / families to express intense emotion and explore their thoughts in a non-verbal way, using a wide range of art materials to promote, maintain, and restore clients’ physical, psycho-social, cognitive, emotional and spiritual health.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings; exchange relevant information, discusses findings and adjusts clients’ intervention plan to ensure optimum patient care and facilitate strong interdisciplinary relationships and focus.
• Facilitate one-on-one and group programs and / or workshops utilizing creative arts to assist clients with fostering self-expression, enhancing coping skills, managing stress, and strengthening a sense of self.

Participate in developing art program material / curriculum, workshops, and individual mentoring in art to guide clients through the creative process and promote wellness, creativity and personal growth.

• Arrange group programs / workshops; schedule sessions times, book facilities, arrange for materials and audio visual equipment.
• Evaluate program, using information gathered by observation and with client feedback on issues such as group session effectiveness and material utilized.

Compile feedback summaries and forwards to Coordinator for review.

What you bring

Qualifications

• Master of Arts Degree in Art Therapy from an accredited University.
• Two (2) years recent, related experience providing art therapy services, coaching and group facilitation to individuals with a mental illness or substance abuse issues, experience in working with diverse marginalized populations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Eligibility for Registration with the British Columbia Art Therapy Association (BCATA).

• Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.

• Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan : A First Nations Case Study and how they intersect across the health care system.
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
