Role
The Senior / Intermediate Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems on EPCM and consulting projects across energy, utilities, industrial, and renewables sectors. This role supports projects from concept development through detailed design, construction, and commissioning, working collaboratively with process, electrical, and project management teams to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient control systems.
Areas of Accountability
Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Execution
- Participate in or lead instrumentation and controls engineering design as part of a project team.
- Develop control philosophies, instrumentation design bases, system architecture descriptions, and technical specifications
- Support projects through concept, FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases
Instrumentation Design & Documentation
Prepare and review instrument data sheets, specifications, and indexesDevelop and review I / O lists, loop diagrams, wiring details, and cable schedulesReview and mark up P&IDs and coordinate closely with Process and Electrical disciplinesControl Systems & Automation
Design and support PLC, DCS, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)Develop and review control narratives, logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and alarm philosophiesSupport system integration activities with electrical systems, SCADA, and plant networksHands-on programming, configuration, and integration of DCS, PLC, and HMI systems is considered an asset but not a requirement for this roleTesting, Commissioning & Field Support
Support or participate in FAT, SAT, loop checks, and commissioning activitiesProvide technical support during construction, start-up, and troubleshootingAssist with resolution of deficiencies identified during testing and commissioningProject, Client & Team Support
Interface with clients, vendors, and system integrators on technical mattersSupport proposal development and provide technical input as requiredProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers (senior-level)Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Controls, or related Engineering disciplineIntermediate : typically 5–10 years of relevant I&C engineering experienceSenior : typically 10+ years of relevant I&C engineering experienceRegistered as a P.Eng. with APEGA (other provincial or state registrations considered an asset)Experience working on EPCM or consulting projectsFamiliarity with control system platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Emerson, or HoneywellHands-on experience with PLC, DCS, and HMI programming, configuration, and system integration is considered an asset, but is not requiredStrong written and verbal communication skillsWillingness to travel occasionally for site and commissioning supportWhat Catch Offers
