Hours per week : Up to 24 hours (current hours anticipated to be 24 hours per week)
Status : Part-Time (Regular)
Located in Barrie and reporting to the Manager, Fitness and Well-Being, the incumbent will be a lead contact for daily fitness centre operations and orientations.
In addition, the incumbent will act as point person for any questions or concerns by members regarding the Get Active Questionnaire, and provide guidance to student staff to ensure the facility meets Health and Safety regulations.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to :
- Providing fitness centre orientations and general fitness guidance to members regarding exercise techniques and equipment usage
- Providing health and safety assistance to members by spotting and / or providing individual and group instruction on the use of equipment
- Reviewing and providing direction regarding the Get Active Questionnaire which includes reviewing medical clearance and doctors notes to determine access to facility and / or membership privileges
- Securing and arranging back-up coverage for group fitness or personal trainers which may include conducting fitness classes or filling in for personal trainers as required
- Ensuring fitness centre coverage by arranging back-up coverage for student staff as required
- Providing guidance to student staff to ensure safety within the fitness centre
- Ensuring the fitness room (MPR) is set-up to meet the needs of the class and that equipment is available for use
- Conducting Fitness classes, including athletic conditioning classes
- Assisting with Fitness Social Media posts and online content
- Assisting with special projects and fitness programming such as 30 for 30, Healthy Living, etc.
- Lead contact for orientations for members of the Fitness Centre
Qualifications :
- Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in a related field that may include but is not limited to fitness, kinesiology, or health
- Relevant current personal training and group fitness certifications (CPTN, CSEP CPT, CEP, NSCA CPT, CSCS, or CANFITPRO FIS / PT)
- Certifications in any of the following would be considered assets : Spin, Cycle, Yoga, Pilate, Nutrition, Nutrition, Pre / Post Natal, TRX, Zumba and Barre
- Must possess, and maintain, current First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification
- 6 months’ experience as a fitness instructor
- Demonstrated ability to motivate participants and sustain high energy throughout class
- Proven ability to use different fitness equipment effectively and instruct customers on its use
- Thorough expertise in the field they are instructing musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and flexibility training techniques as well as injury prevention
- Ability to work non-traditional hours (days, evenings and weekends)
