Position Summary :

The Logistics and Trade Compliance Specialist will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating the movement of goods and materials within our supply chain.

You will be responsible for overseeing the logistics operations, ensuring timely delivery, and optimizing efficiency. You will report directly to the Logistics and Inventory Manager and work out of our location in Burnaby.

Your attention to detail and ability to manage logistics and customs compliance processes will contribute to the overall success of our operations.

Specific Duties :

Logistics and Distributions (50%) :

  • Perform logistics management operations that involve planning, coordinating, or evaluating the logistical actions required to meet business objectives.
  • Assist with coordinating domestic and international shipments, including arranging transportation, tracking shipments, and communicating with carriers, freight forwarders and 3PL distributions partners.
  • Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and export / import documentation, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support inventory management activities, including stock reconciliation, cycle counts, and maintaining accurate records of inventory levels.

Manage inventory adjustments and transfers, research inventory discrepancies and resolve variances.

  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding logistics, shipments, and administrative matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, and 3PL warehouse personnel, to ensure smooth coordination of logistics and distribution processes.
  • Manage claims made to carriers following damage.
  • Request and manage spot quotes and provide recommendation.
  • Resolve freight discrepancies / shipment exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the implementation of efficiency-enhancing measures.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in all logistics and administrative activities.

Trade Compliance (50%) :

  • Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance in the following areas : Export Control Classification, Export Licensing, Export Documentation, Tariff Classification, Customs Valuation, Duty Drawback, Reconciliation, Country of Origin Marking, Country of Origin Determination, Recordkeeping, Preference Programs / FTAs, and Customs Clearance
  • Implementation & administration of government regulated programs required to move shipments to all global destinations.
  • Resolution of all problems & disputes concerning transportation, logistics systems, billing, and import / export issues.
  • Ongoing review & classification of tariff codes for incoming and outgoing product & part shipments, including all CUSMA / USMCA compliance related matters.
  • Ensure company compliance with CARM (CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management digital initiative) and facilitate duty recovery / drawbacks where applicable.
  • Provide consultative support to suppliers, partners, and customers to assist with the export & re-import of products to minimize delays with ongoing projects.
  • Monitor and determine the impact of changes in export trade laws & regulations and the ability to develop and adapt procedures as required by these changes.
  • Conduct regular audits of tariff classification, FTA data, and broker submitted documentation such as customs entries or export submissions.
  • Identify continuous improvement and cost avoidance measures for import / export shipments.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Education in international business, supply chain management, trade compliance or other related discipline. Working towards completion of CIFFA or CCS Certification preferred.
  • Seven (7) or more years’ experience in transportation, customs compliance, logistics or a related field of expertise.
  • Current knowledge of the regulations, policies, and laws affecting international trade, compliance, and logistics.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting export and import rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of export regulations related to export licensing, trade sanctions and embargoes.
  • Understanding of customs processes and familiarity with CBP and CBSA regulations on imports and exports.
  • Travel up to 15% to visit sites in North America, EU and Asia to meet with local distribution partners who support warehousing, distribution and trade compliance activities.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with the ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
  • Effective time management and communication skills both written & verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to delegate tasks and collaborate with other team members to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to teach, train and develop others to improve their overall contribution.

Benefits

Base Salary : $68,307 - $88,400 CAD per year plus bonus.

The compensation offered will be determined by experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.

Only in special circumstances, where candidates demonstrate the experience and skills to exceed those required for the position, would we consider paying above the range for this role.
