Financial Analyst – Public Sector!
Job Description
SUMMARY
Our public sector client in Ontario is seeking a detailed and results-oriented individual with analytical expertise to be accountable for the overall financial analysis and reporting, risk management, internal controls, budget coordination, developing financial policy and providing financial advice and expertise to staff at all levels of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing financial expertise to the operational multi-year and financial planning process by preparing and providing information such as budget estimates, allocations, calendarizations, and forecasts.
- Leading all accounting activities including preparation and monitoring of general ledgers, bank reconciliations and maintenance of bank and other reporting documentation and records.
- Coordinating the development of internal management and ad hoc reports (e.g., financial statements, cashflow forecasting and HST reporting, etc.
for monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial results and preparing commentaries for SO senior leadership.
- Providing subject matter expertise to non-finance SO leadership, and, occasionally, the Board of Directors, on the interpretation of financial data for decision-making.
- Leading development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures.
- Leading and / or assisting with accounting and finance responsibilities related to an ERP implementation
- Providing back-up to the Financial Analyst by conducting full cycle accounts payable to validating and processing invoices, processing payments and etc., when required.
- Provides back-up to the Payroll Specialist by conducting full cycle payroll to validating and processing payroll and etc. when required
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related degree and relevant experience.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
- Proficiency in MS Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, macros) to develop sophisticated reporting and automation tools
- Proficiency in Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise and other ERPs
- Demonstrated and proven financial experience in a government or broader public sector environment and knowledge
- Understanding and application of government accounting concepts, policies, standards, including guidance from the Public Accounting Standards Board.
