Ultra Maritime has an exciting opportunity for a Manager Systems Engineering. Here you will manage and develop Systems Engineers to ensure that the business has the skills, processes, and headcount to deliver its strategic objectives.

The Manager Systems Engineering manages the Systems Engineering function across Ultra Maritime Canada, to ensure it has the capability and capacity to meet the current and future demand of the business.

You will therefore need to work with the Engineering and Project Managers to ensure that the demand is defined, managed, and accommodated.

The Systems Engineering function is also responsible for How Systems Engineering is performed in the business. The Manager Systems Engineering therefore has responsibility for functional processes, procedures, policies, and tools.

This includes a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and process optimization.

Nationality Requirements :

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Scope :

Leadership and management of the Systems Engineers at Ultra Maritime Canada. Transverse relationship with Engineering teams based in other Ultra Maritime Lines of Business in the US, UK, and Australia to ensure synergy of functional processes.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Planning, allocation, and management of Systems Engineers to multiple projects in cooperation with other departments and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, develop, and implement appropriate process and procedure improvements to meet current and emergent engineering requirements in-line with the business strategic vision and Systems Engineering best practices.
  • Cooperate with Chief Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers in the provision of technical infrastructure, including engineering facilities and tools, required by the Systems Engineering team across all projects.
  • Recruitment of Systems Engineers to support the short-, medium-, and long-term requirements of bids, projects, and the business.
  • Identification, planning, development, and management of training for Systems Engineers to ensure that skills and qualifications are appropriate for current and future business needs.
  • Ensure that suitable performance management, mentoring, and coaching is carried out throughout the Systems Engineering team to support staff development and retention.
  • Develop and manage succession plans for the Systems Engineering team.
  • Work alongside projects to provide support to ensure delivery milestones are hit.
  • Provide oversight and contribute to Design Reviews including acting as Design Review Chair.
  • Provide and review plans and estimates for bids and projects.
  • Promote positive behaviors, Ultra Maritime values, and a positive vision of the company to the Systems Engineering team.

Role Requirements :

  • Experience leading Systems Engineering teams.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and formal processes preferably in the defense sector.
  • Experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders including senior management.
  • Experience across the whole project lifecycle, from bids and proposals through to in-service support.

Qualifications / Skills :

  • Degree level (or equivalent experience) in the Systems Engineering discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Use of standard office tools and experience of engineering tools such as DOORS, UML tools, ERPs, and Configuration Management tools.
