The Research Universities’ Council of British Columbia (RUCBC) represents the interests of BC’s research universities. RUCBC’s mandate is to identify issues facing the universities, provide system wide leadership in the development of relevant public policy and communicate on behalf of the university system.

RUCBC also provides a coordinating forum for its member universities and acts as a provincial focal point for working with the Government of British Columbia and provincial or national bodies associated with universities.

The members of RUCBC are the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, University of Northern British Columbia, Royal Roads University, and Thompson Rivers University.

The University Presidents of each institution constitute the Board of Directors. RUCBC also has three Vice-Presidents Committees (Academic, Research and Finance) that meet regularly.

These six universities educate over 140,000 students each year, employ over 32,000 faculty and staff and have an estimated economic impact of $16 billion.

The ideal candidate will have an outstanding track record of senior level leadership a track record of integrity, of getting important things done through collaboration and of effectively communicating the organization’s aspirations and achievements.

This individual will have held a senior executive role in the public service, post-secondary sector, or in an organization that works intimately with governments.

They will have an excellent understanding of and respect for the culture of research-intensive universities and a clear record of achievement in building and engaging partnerships.

Preferably based in Victoria, the Chief Executive Officer will need to attend regular meetings in both Victoria and Vancouver, and to travel as needed in support of RUCBC’s mission.

In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary for this role is $280,000 per year, plus pension and benefits.
