ISO Program Manager

The ISO Program Manager is a key team member in the management of the water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure of Halifax Water.
They provide leadership in Halifax Water by delivering services that protect public health and the environment. The ISO Program Manager is responsible for the of oversight and delivery of the associated certifications within the ISO management standards for Halifax Water.
They will also be responsible for their personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and Halifax Water’s Occupational Health and Safety Program Manual.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Initiates, develops, implements, and administers programs and projects to improve the performance of Halifax Water’s wastewater, water, and stormwater systems relative to legislated and corporate environmental and safety objectives.
- Manages internal and cross-departmental project and program teams, including work assignments, quality control and decision support.
- Prepares scope-of-work documents and manages the activities of external consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Incorporate Halifax Water’s Climate Action Plan into the Environmental Management System.
- Manages Halifax Water’s Environmental Management System with other departments in developing and maintaining ISO certifications.
- Lead in implementing ISO certifications for other standards.
- Incorporates the aspects the ISO objectives that support the Enterprise Risk Registry and Comprehensive Emergency Response Plan.
- Liaises with the public, elected officials, community interest groups, regulators, government representatives, developers, consultants, contractors, lawyers, insurers, and other stakeholders.
- Administers and enforces Halifax Water regulations, standards, specifications, and other relevant regulatory legislation to ensure compliance related to the use of Halifax Water systems.
- Manages the investigation of environmental issues and implements corrective actions to resolve problems involving the collection of information, management of staff activities and resources, preparation of reports and monitoring budgets.
- Leads assessments of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure related to legislated performance requirements and standards.
Develops solutions to ensure compliance, including assigning priorities and estimating costs.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports to : Director Regulatory Services
- Supervises : Engineering Technologist II EMS, Office Assistant II
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Education :
- Post-Secondary degree / diploma with a focus in Environmental Studies, Engineering Sciences, Water Resources or related discipline, or suitable combination of formal education and experience may be considered.
- Civil Engineering Technologist (CET), Professional Engineer, or other related designation.
- ISO Internal Audit Training / Certification would be considered an asset.
Experience :
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible related experience in a municipal and / or environmental field, including direct supervisory experience.
- Experience in conducting audits would be an asset.

Certificates / Licenses / Registrations :
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
- Must be willing to undertake and maintain valid the following safety training : First AidGlobally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements.
