The RCMP Island District is looking for motivated and industrious individuals to be a part of a team of support personnel who directly impact the public and regular members who work in frontline policing.

You will become part of a dynamic group of Public Servants who are responsible for work in areas such as police records, customer service, procurement, finance and a host of other support tasks at an RCMP detachment.

Detachment Service Assistants and Administrative Assistant positions require the ability to use critical thinking skills to problem solve, anticipate needs, stay current with applicable policies and procedures as well as be adaptable in an ever-changing work environment.

There are many distractions within an RCMP Detachment and candidates must be versatile and able to manage multiple tasks at once, with the understanding that constant interruptions throughout the day will be unavoidable.

Candidates must also have sound organizational skills, be a self-starter, possess a calm demeanor under pressure and have the ability to lead by example.

Please note, some positions are located in rural or isolated communities and require a medical clearance. These positions may also be a one-PSE (Public Service Employee) Detachment, meaning that the position is responsible for all administrative and operational support duties for that Detachment.

It is a very demanding job and if interested, the candidate must be aware of the limited resources on site and be diligent in seeking out training and assistance if needed.

Intent of the process

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future permanent or temporary vacancies (including terms, actings, casuals, assignments and secondments) in similar or lower-level positions (at full or part-time hours, including shift-work) in the various locations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of one year and may be extended.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.
