Job Description :

NVIT is currently searching for an Associate Vice President, Students and invites applications from qualified individuals for this full-time, exempt, ongoing position.

This position will be based at either the Merritt or Burnaby campus and will commence as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

Position Summary :

  • The Associate Vice President, Students (AVP, Students) reports to the Vice President, Academic and is responsible for advancing the institution’s strategic goals and priorities related to : the Registrar’s office;
  • enrolment services; student engagement; communications, marketing and events; ancillary services (student residence and daycare);

and has overall responsibility for the institution’s strategic enrolment management (SEM) initiatives.

The AVP, Students is responsible for receiving and processing non-academic student complaints and supporting learners in crisis.

The AVP, Students position is identified within multiple NVIT policies and has correlating responsibilities.

The AVP, Students is responsible for upholding the Institutional standards and directs prospective and current learner registration and records management, from inquiry and application through to archiving of permanent student records for the Registrar’s office.

Through a proactive, consultative, and collaborative process, the AVP, Students is accountable for designing, implementing, and monitoring systems to control the prospective learner inquiry and learner admissions and registration processes and fulfill required reporting to the Ministry and other external sources.

The AVP, Students will work closely with the Education Council and the instructional departments for both on and off-campus program delivery.

The position directly supervises the Registrar to ensure a highly learner-centered and faculty friendly service approach and seamless mobility for applicants and students.

The AVP, Students performs a broad range of difficult and complex senior management activities requiring a high level of independence and sound judgment within a team context with other senior managers.

As a member of the Senior Management Team the position participates in the development of Institute priorities, policies, and procedures, and other duties as assigned.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Represent the institute as the senior member at provincial and national communities of practice related to Senior Student Affairs, Communications and Marketing, and Strategic Enrolment Management.
  • Provide advice in the formulation of academic policy and maintain academic quality standards by ensuring consistent application of academic policy and procedures related to admissions, transfer credit, grade processing, and graduation eligibility.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and implementation of non-academic and student judicial policies and processes.
  • Cultivate a culture of student development and advocacy that includes essential student supports in the areas of retention alert, mental, spiritual and physical health services, financial and academic advising, and proficiency support, and student growth and development through campus-wide learner engagement activities.
  • Develop and implement integrated communications, marketing and recruiting strategies that leverage the branding, website, digital and virtual technologies and applications and multiple mediums and platforms to effectively and efficiently advance the institute’s strategic and enrolment goals.
  • Lead the Strategic Enrolment Management committee initiatives and planning processes to develop and support a campus-wide shared sense of purpose and responsibility, strategic information-based decision making and planning as well as benchmark reporting.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the employees within Enrolment Services, Communications and Marketing, and Continuing Studies areas by building effective team-based working environments that encourage both collective and personal productivity, job satisfaction and the professional growth of employees within the departments.
  • Responsible for critical Institute communications with internal and external audiences.
  • Oversight of contractual arrangements for ancillary service providers and conference organizers, i.e. daycare and shared responsibility of student residence.
  • Manage access to records to ensure accuracy, security, and integrity of paper and electronic records.
  • Ensure compliance with Freedom of Information / Protection of Privacy Act as it applies to student records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications :

A Graduate degree together with five years’ experience working in the BC public post secondary system preferably in an Enrolment Services environment;

an alternate combination of education and experience may be accepted.

  • Exceptional leadership, decision-making and project management competencies.
  • Advanced facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in the awareness and use of business technologies and applications.
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing employee and learner centred services.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skills and experience operating computerized student records information systems e.g. Colleague.
  • Skills and experience in supervision, mentoring, and training systems users.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.
