Description

Hi there, we’re Article. 👋 Since 2013, we have been redefining the furniture industry one sofa at a time, it’s not easy — it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in, as our Compensation & Total Rewards Manager, you’ll own and evolve how we approach compensation and benefits for Particles across our diverse workforce including Canada, the US, Vietnam.

Why We Need You:

As Article grows in complexity across our Vancouver HQ, Vietnam office, North American warehouses, and expanding retail store network, our compensation and benefits programs need to grow with us.
Until now, our P&C Business Partners have done a phenomenal job wearing multiple hats to keep this work moving, including managing complex annual compensation cycles for their growing client groups. We’re ready to bring that work together under one dedicated expert.

This is our first-ever, dedicated compensation hire where you’ll have the opportunity to shape and build a more scalable approach to global rewards at Article. You’ll own our annual compensation cycle, salary benchmarking, compensation structures, and job architecture, while also leading the design and evolution of our benefits programs with our brokers and vendors.

This is a hands-on ownership role, not an administration role. We’re looking for someone who has owned annual compensation cycles end-to-end and has experience working directly with benefits brokers and vendors on plan design, renewals, and balancing employee needs with business and budget considerations.

You’ll be joining at an important time. Our annual compensation budget planning begins shortly, so you’ll have the opportunity to jump in and take ownership of meaningful work right away.

Why Article?

As a Particle (people of Article), you will have a high level of autonomy to solve challenging, meaningful problems the best way you can. That means you’re trusted to explore solutions you believe will work best (you’re the expert, after all). You’ll do all this while growing your skills within a company that is redefining the furniture industry.

About the People & Culture Team:

We’re a team of 16 Particles across Talent Acquisition, Business Partnership, Learning & Development, and Internal Communications. You’ll find us in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Austin, and Ho Chi Minh City.

We work closely across time zones, share ideas, and make space for new ones. We take our work seriously, but not ourselves.

We are a hybrid team. You’ll work from our Vancouver HQ a minimum of 3 days per week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What You’ll Do:

Compensation
  • Own Article’s annual compensation cycle end-to-end, including budget planning, governance, job benchmarking, manager communication, and execution.
  • Lead our salary benchmarking and market pricing process, including managing relationships with compensation survey providers and completing annual reviews of our salary ranges.
  • Build and maintain compensation structures for our workforce across Canada, the US, Vietnam, and international employees through our Employer of Record (Deel), spanning corporate, Retail, Customer Care, and Logistics roles.
  • Price new roles and manage Article’s job catalogue in our HRIS, HiBob.
  • Own and evolve Article’s job architecture and leveling framework, helping ensure roles are priced and leveled consistently as the business grows.
  • Provide compensation training and guidance to managers and employees on compensation policies and practices.
  • Lead our pay transparency work and BC pay equity reporting.
  • Keep a pulse on total rewards trends and market competitiveness, bringing forward creative, practical solutions as Article scales.
Benefits
  • Lead our benefits strategy and plan design, working directly with brokers and vendors across Canada, the US, and Vietnam.
  • Own vendor selection and renewal negotiations, balancing the needs of our Particles with market competitiveness, business needs, and budget.
  • Ensure our benefits programs stay aligned with Article’s Benefits Principles and evolve as we grow into new geographies and lines of business.
  • Partner with the People Operations team on a clean handoff between benefits strategy and day-to-day plan administration.
People Analytics
  • Build and maintain P&C dashboards and executive reporting on compensation, workforce planning, and other organizational metrics as needed.
  • Turn compensation and people data into clear insights that help P&C and business leaders make informed decisions.
  • We use G Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Google Docs, Meet, etc) to work and Slack to collaborate and communicate, with your choice of Mac or PC device.

Who You Are:

Must-Haves
  • 7+ years of progressive compensation experience, including at least 2- 3 years owning an annual merit or compensation cycle end-to-end, including budget planning, governance, communication, and execution.
  • Hands-on salary benchmarking and market pricing experience, including direct relationships with compensation survey providers such as Radford, Mercer, Aon, or similar.
  • Experience building and maintaining salary structures using compensation survey and market data.
  • Experience designing compensation structures across multiple employee populations, including corporate, Retail/frontline, and hourly/Logistics roles.
  • Multi-country compensation experience, ideally including Canada and the US (we also have an office in Vietnam).
  • Experience with job architecture and leveling, including pricing new roles, maintaining a job catalogue, and applying a leveling framework consistently.
  • Benefits program ownership, including experience working directly with brokers and vendors on plan design, vendor selection, renewals, and negotiations in at least one market, ideally Canada or the US.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. You’ll be a primary point of contact for managers and employees on compensation policies and practices and will need to build credibility quickly.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills for compensation modeling and analysis.
  • Experience managing, extracting, and analyzing compensation and employee data within an HRIS. We use HiBob.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

From us, you can expect that humans make hiring decisions.

Criminal Background Checks:

Having a criminal record does not restrict your employment at Article. Criminal background checks are only conducted with your permission and after a conditional employment offer has been accepted.
The decision if a criminal record will restrict your employment will be made on a case-by-case basis, where we conduct an "individualized assessment"—a reasoned, evidence-based determination as to whether the applicant's past conviction has a direct and adverse relationship with the specific job duties of the position.
Work Authorization:
Unless otherwise stated, all open roles require legal authorization to work in the location where the job is based, without requiring VISA sponsorship.

For US-based roles, Article participates in E-Verify
