The Director Occupational Health and Safety Services (OHS) is a unique opportunity for an exceptional leader to champion the strategic direction of safety security health and injury management programs. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager Workforce Safety Security and Employee Health (WSSEH) the Director OHS Services is a pivotal connector between internal and external business this capacity you will demonstrate a personal drive and commitment to provide service excellence to staff business partners and the public while translating high-level vision into effective branch and corporate-level initiatives.

You will ensure the organizations alignment with the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Code while actively representing the City on external provincial and governmental committees. As the Director OHS Services you will oversee the development of measurable safety metrics to monitor progress ensure the prudent stewardship of financial resources throughout program delivery and foster organizational integration to provide seamless service. By championing a culture of excellence you will translate strategic directives into operational priorities that support the Department and contribute to the long-term success of the City.

What will you do

  • Provide high-level leadership direction and mentorship to a team of OHS Managers ensuring they effectively support their respective business line
  • Lead the team to translate high-level safety standards into actionable client-specific procedures
  • Oversee the development implementation and long-term sustainment of the WSSEH Branch Strategy the Roadmap to Loss Prevention with a primary emphasis on empowering front-line leaders and improving the health well-being and quality of working life for the entire workforce
  • Champion the strategic direction of safety security health and injury management programs systems and initiatives and translate this direction into corporate-level programs required to achieve the Citys vision and priorities
  • Ensure the corporations alignment with and adherence to the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Code
  • Serve as a trusted advisor providing expert coaching and counsel to Branch Managers and Directors on complex safety matters corporate policy and legislative requirements
  • Oversee the development of measurable and effective safety health and security metrics and ensure associated performance measures are consistently implemented monitored and achieved
  • By maintaining rigorous adherence to the Safety Management System to sustain the Citys COR certification and CAPP Process the Director ensures organizational effectiveness and achieves measurable continuous safety improvements across the City of Edmonton
  • Foster integration within the Corporation to ensure a thorough and seamless delivery of programs projects and services
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation within the section
  • Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial resources in the conceptualization and delivery of the corporations departments and branchs work
  • Oversee the sections operational budget
  • Knowledge training and/or education in Occupational Health and Safety Business Administration Finance or a related field
  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a large complex organization
  • Experience managing a large diverse team in the provision of complex program management and other related activities
  • Demonstrated experience guiding or overseeing complex strategic corporate-wide projects and initiatives
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered

Assets:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or other applicable qualification/designation

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

  • 1 permanent full-time position
  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
  • Salary: (Annually) - $146472.00 - $183091.00
  • Hire is dependent on a satisfactory Criminal Information Check to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
