Our mission is to be every womans place for support, connections, and community. Specifically, we connect with women looking for assistance, for opportunities to connect and / or for ways to affect change in their community.
Position overview
The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the Centres brand and reputation across internal and external audiences and connecting the community with our mission and vision by delivering clear, consistent, and inclusive communication. This role carries responsibility across multiple areas of communications, requiring the ability to move fluidly between planning, execution, and evaluation. It contributes to the development of communications plans and key messages while also leading hands-on content creation, editing, and distribution across digital and traditional channels. This role requires sound judgment, the ability to prioritize competing demands, and comfort working independently and collaboratively to advance organizational goals. The Communications Coordinator also provides guidance on brand consistency, supports media and stakeholder engagement, and uses data and storytelling to strengthen impact and reach.

Job duties
Strategy and Planning
Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive Communications Strategy that reflects the full scope of the Womens Centres programs, services, and advocacy work.Develop and implement an annual communications plan in collaboration with staff across all areas of the organization to promote programs, workshops, events, and emerging issues affecting women and girls.Contribute to storytelling approaches that centre community voices and reflect the lived experiences of the Womens Centre community, while aligning with brand and ethical guidelines.Support brand and reputation management through consistent messaging, tone, and visual identity.Communications Delivery and Implementation
Develop, coordinate, and deliver internal and external communications using a range of formats, including website content, newsletters, print materials, media releases, and digital platforms.Manage and update the Womens Centre website and produce the monthly e-newsletter, including maintaining distribution lists.Coordinate and contribute to social media content as part of broader communications efforts, ensuring messaging is consistent, purposeful, and aligned with organizational priorities.Coordinate media relations activities and maintain relationships with media contacts.Liaise with external communication service providers (e.g., graphic designers, printers, photographers) as required.Support the planning and delivery of external-facing activities, campaigns, and events.Manage social media channels in alignment with the Communications Strategy and Social Media Policy, ensuring content supports broader organizational goals rather than functioning as a stand-alone focus.Develop and maintain communications resources to support staff, volunteers, and program delivery.Support staff in applying communications and brand guidelines consistently.Reporting and Evaluation
Track and analyze engagement metrics across communications platforms and activities (e.g., website, newsletters, social media, campaigns).Compile communications data and insights to support reporting, learning, and continuous improvement.Contribute to the collection and sharing of impact stories that demonstrate the reach and outcomes of the Womens Centres work.Culture
Actively participate in regular supervision.Contribute towards a culture of psychological safety.Build effective relationships with women accessing the Centre, volunteers, and supporters of the Centre.Engage in organization events and meetings.Participate in activities related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as, Justice and Reconciliation.Contribute towards a culture of philanthropy.Required qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in a community or nonprofit setting.Minimum two years of experience in a communications role; experience in community development is an asset.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams.Experience with content creation and editing for diverse audiences and platforms.Demonstrated awareness of systemic issues such as gender inequality and the experiences of Indigenous communities in Canada.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and design tools (e.g., Adobe or similar software).Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Line of communication and accountability

The Womens Centre is a storefront community center operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires some evening and weekend work.
