Occasional attendance at evening or weekend events is required. Shifts will be adjusted to accommodate for these instances.

The Role

The Job Developer is responsible for supporting Q+ Works participants in their efforts to secure sustainable employment and / or to enroll in education or training that will likely lead to sustainable employment.

Q+ Works is an innovative, responsive employment and skills training program for 2SLGBTQIA+ Young Adults that employs principles of Universal Design for Learning, Co-Design, and Hope-Centred Career Development.

Participants will develop workplace skills by choosing, undertaking, and managing a group project, while researching relevant career and educational pathways, visiting employer sites, and engaging with guest speakers and employer panels to expand their networks.

The 10-week program features 6 weeks of in-person cohort-based training and 4 weeks of individual and group meetings to finalize training plans, begin job search, and / or prepare applications for further education or training.

Responsibilities

Participant Recruitment and Intakes :

  • Actively assist with participant recruitment and marketing efforts.
  • Deliver Information Sessions.
  • Review applications and select applicants.
  • Conduct intake interviews and informal assessments to determine suitability for program.

Job Development :

  • Work with Participants to develop and finalize a Training Plan which leads to either sustainable employment or education / training that will likely lead to sustainable employment (or a combination of both).
  • Employ Hope-Centred Career Development practices and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Meet regularly with Participants to review and modify Training Plans as needed to ensure Participants stay on track.
  • Provide individualized career planning and job search strategies to augment class instruction.
  • Prepare Participants for job interviews and debrief interviews afterwards.
  • Assist employers with onboarding and the development of training (if requested by them).
  • Collaborate with the Q+ Works Career Coach / Job Developer to determine client case load and discuss options to best support participants. Follow-up Supports :
  • Conduct follow up with participants to provide job maintenance and ongoing career development support.
  • Assist participants with issues that may arise during their employment. Employer and Community Connections :
  • Develop and build connections with 2SLGBTQIA+ focused and / or friendly organizations and employers.
  • Liaise with employers to provide work placements, informational interviews, host field trips and / or to participate in employer panels and hiring events.
  • Arrange field trips with educational institutions that provide training which aligns with participants career goals.
  • Coordinate with WorkBC offices and liaise with organizations that provide wrap around supports and refer participants as appropriate.
  • Participate in the department's Job Developer group.
  • Participate in events and panels with other organizations as they arise.

  • Work collaboratively with our inclusivity partner, to apply an intersectional lens to ensure accessibility and inclusivity through all phases of the program. Administration :
  • Maintain records of participant progress, and community and employer connections.
  • Adhere to privacy requirements and follow the department's file saving practices.
  • Contribute to a Program Guide.
  • Support program administrators with tracking of Progress Markers, Wage Subsidies and Direct Employer supports.
  • Participate in project team meetings.
  • Complete and / or contribute to reports and paperwork as requested.
  • Contribute to the department's ISO 9001 : 2015 certified Quality Management System. Other Duties as Assigned :
  • Provide Facilitation support as needed when Facilitators are unavailable. To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
  • Certified Career Development Professional is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in related field. Career development and employment services is preferred.
  • Experience & / or knowledge of :
  • Hope-Centred Career Development principles,
  • Trauma Informed Practice,
  • Universal Design for Learning,
  • Principles of Co-Design.
  • Experience working with young adults who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+.
  • Awareness of barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of current local and regional economic conditions and labour market information options for job seekers.
  • Established broad based employer network an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in internet research, Microsoft Word, and social media.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and calmly handle changing circumstances.
  • Travel within the Lower Mainland is required : access to a vehicle and valid BC Driver's license or reliable alternative transportation.
  • Preference will be given to 2SLGBTQIA+ candidates with lived experience that possess the qualifications for this position.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check. A criminal record will not automatically result in your application for employment being denied.
