What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is seeking experienced Traffic Control Technicians (TCTs)—also known as Traffic Technicians—to join our team for the 2026 construction season!

Do you have hands-on experience setting up lane closures? Operated flatbed trucks, handled trailers, or worked with TMAs? If so, we want to hear from you!

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining safe, protected work areas for contractors and crews throughout Calgary and Southern Alberta. TCTs play a critical role in roadway safety by setting up, monitoring, and removing lane closures and detours using equipment such as:

  • Barricades
  • Traffic cones / pylons
  • Road signage
  • Digital message boards

What You'll Do Here:

  • Ensure that all safety procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Implement safe lane closures, detours, and work zones according to standards and procedures.
  • Perform physical setup and takedown of traffic control devices.
  • Remove and relocate traffic equipment as needed.
  • Operate company vehicles including flat deck trucks, trucks with trailers, and TMA units.
  • Support crews and contractors by maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and site requirements.
  • Perform flagging activities to safely direct vehicles, heavy equipment, and foot traffic for the safety of road users and work crews in a construction environment.
  • Complete daily traffic inspections and reports.
  • Work shifts of up to 12 hours, including nights and days.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 1+ year of traffic control experience (lane closures/takedowns preferred).
  • Valid Class 5 Non-GDL Driver’s License.
  • Physically capable of standing for long durations, moving traffic equipment, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Clean 3-Year Driver’s Abstract (required for driving company vehicles).
  • Experience with flat deck trucks and towing trailers is an asset.
  • Familiarity with navigating the City of Calgary road network is an asset.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Test.
  • ACSA TCP Ticket is an asset.

Additional Information

  • If you do not have an ACSA TCP Ticket, no problem—Aecon provides all required training.

PPE Requirements

  • Bring CSA-approved safety boots on Day 1—we supply the rest.
