Assistant or Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and Pain Management (2 positions)

The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified candidates for two Assistant or Associate Professor positions in Veterinary Anesthesiology and Pain Management.

The FMV is located in Saint-Hyacinthe , the agricultural capital of Quebec with 57 000 inhabitants. The FMV is located 60 km (37 miles) from Montreal , a vibrant city with an international airport and excellent flight connections to Europe, the USA and South America.

The FMV is also within easy reach of the beautiful, historic Quebec City and Ottawa , the capital of Canada. The FMV is located off campus, but maintains strong collaborative ties to other faculties at the Université de Montréal and other universities within the province.

FMV is ranked among the top 30 veterinary educational institutions in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings .

The successful candidates will join a dynamic, expanding team dedicated to the needs of our state-of-the-art teaching hospital, composed of 1 professor, 2 clinicians, 5 technicians and up to 3 residents.

There is a varied caseload thanks to our busy small animal, equine and bovine hospitals as well as our exotic animal service.

The latter also serves a local zoo (Granby) and a large aquarium in Quebec City. The successful candidate will become part of an expanding service.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire

through your teaching to students and your research activities, enhancing the reputation of your discipline and playing an active role in the overall operations of a renowned institution. As such, you will :

  • Participate in didactic teaching of Anesthesiology and Pain Management to undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Participate in the clinical teaching of the Anesthesiology Service to DVM students and graduate students (including interns and residents).
  • The anesthesia service has recently acquired cutting-edge equipment, allowing new professors to develop their clinical skills and / or perform innovative clinical research;
  • Develop research activities in the field of Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Many opportunities for collaboration exist for new professors;
  • Contribute to outreach activities in your discipline (publications, conferences, and others);
  • Contribute to the overall operations of the University.

Additionally :

Contribute to the after-hours, holiday and weekend emergency duties according to the conditions established by the CHUV.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need :

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree;
  • Have successfully completed a residency in Anesthesiology and be a diplomate of the American College of Anesthesiologists (ACVA) or of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA);
  • Applications from board-eligible individuals, as well as residents in the process of graduation will also be considered;
  • Strong interest in teaching, clinical service, and research;
  • An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy .

An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.
