Position Overview

Pender & Howe, the driving force behind Flex Exec, is actively seeking exceptional candidates for fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) roles within the Life Sciences sector and the Biotech, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, and Healthcare Services sub-sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Financial Planning : Develop and execute a financial strategy, lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Funding and Investment Management : Identify and secure funding opportunities, including equity financing, debt financing, grants, and partnerships.

Manage investor relations and oversee investment strategies to maximize returns and support growth initiatives.

Financial Operations and Compliance : Ensure the integrity of financial operations, including accounting, reporting, tax planning, audit, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Implement best practices in financial management and internal controls to mitigate risks.

• Cost Management and Efficiency : Drive cost optimization and operational efficiency across the organization. Implement cost-saving initiatives and monitor financial performance to achieve profitability targets.
• Systems and Processes : Implement and oversee business management systems, including ERP systems compliant with GMP standards.

Manage procurement and payroll in collaboration with HR.

Strategic Communication : Effectively engage with senior management and stakeholders, presenting financial reports and strategic insights at board meetings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, CFA, or similar professional finance / accounting certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in the life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, or a closely related sector.

Proven track record in a CFO or similar senior financial leadership role with expertise in leading IPOs and M&As.

• Strong expertise in financial modeling, analysis, and strategic planning. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies that support business growth and innovation.
• Extensive experience in fundraising, investment management, and investor relations. Familiarity with the financial landscape and funding mechanisms specific to the life sciences sector.
• In-depth understanding of the regulatory environment and compliance requirements in the life sciences industry. Proficiency in financial reporting, tax planning, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the executive team, board members, investors, and external partners.
