Our Client is seeking up to five Digital Architects Data to support digital transformation, service innovation, and program review initiatives across the Province.
The Digital Architect Data will work within cross-functional agile product teams and provide architectural leadership for digital services. The role is responsible for guiding solution architecture, aligning services to a common architectural vision, supporting iterative delivery, and helping teams design modern, user-centered digital solutions.
As the senior technical resource on the team, the Digital Architect will provide strategic technical guidance, mentor delivery teams, support architecture decisions, and contribute to the modernization of government services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead solution architecture for digital services and transformation initiatives.
- Develop overall architectural plans aligned with citizen-centered design and agile delivery.
- Analyze existing system environments and identify technical constraints, dependencies, and opportunities.
- Provide recommendations, prototypes, and technical discovery support to assess feasibility.
- Develop solution designs that support iterative implementation.
- Assess technical impacts, risks, and architecture exposure.
- Define integration approaches, system boundaries, and target-state interactions.
- Identify opportunities to reuse common components, platforms, and capabilities.
- Guide teams in developing detailed solution designs.
- Review code changes and contribute to development work where required.
- Support the delivery of user stories and technical tasks.
- Coach and mentor product and delivery teams.
- Contribute to enterprise architecture principles, standards, metrics, and service-quality practices.
- Create architecture documentation, diagrams, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of architecture practices across the organization.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an accepted equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect, Software Architect, Senior Data Engineer, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional agile product teams.
- 5+ years of experience leading solution architecture and defining overall technical direction.
- 4+ years of experience leading domain modelling and database schema design.
- 5+ years of strong communication experience, including explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years aligning data architecture with organizational data strategies and digital initiatives.
- 3+ years applying data-governance principles to improve data consistency, quality, and standards.
- 4+ years applying secure-development practices and managing technical or security considerations.
- 5+ years architecting solutions using relational and non-relational database technologies.
- 2+ years collaborating with cross-functional teams to support data interoperability.
- 5+ years modernizing or incrementally transforming legacy systems into modern digital solutions.
- 2+ years of experience with Government of Alberta Information Technology / Information Management environments.
- 3+ years working within an organization comparable in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
