Duties

This helicopter pilot position has a vital role as part of a team providing essential services to support the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) helicopter operation.

The successful candidate must be able to multi-task and prioritize in an operational environment ensuring that 'safety comes first'.

The individual must have excellent inter-personal skills, be able to communicate effectively, and recognize the requirement to work as a member of a team to provide outstanding client service.

The main duties of the pilot position are to support CCG operations through a variety of flying activities from shore bases and CCG icebreakers.

EDUCATION :

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION :

Possession of a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License Helicopter Category.

Possession of a valid Restricted Radio Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

EXPERIENCE :

Minimum of hours on turbine Helicopters.

Minimum of hours of pilot-in-command in Helicopters.

Significant and recent experience in Vertical Reference Slinging operations.

Significant will be evaluated in regard to amount and complexity of work performed.

Recent" is defined as within the last 5 years.

KNOWLEDGE :

Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards as they apply to Helicopter operations.

Knowledge of sling equipment, rigging procedures and techniques used for vertical reference external load operations.

ABILITIES :

Ability to operate to / from remote helicopter landing pads, often in confined areas.

Ability to coordinate and plan activities in response to various client requests.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Possession of, or previously held, a Group 4 Instrument Rating

Experience :

Recent experience as pilot-in-command on Bell helicopters.

Experience in IFR operations.

Experience in Helicopter coastal mountain flying.

Experience in Arctic flying.

Experience in Shipboard / Flight Deck.

Knowledge :

Knowledge of Aircraft Services Directorate operational policies and Standard Operating Procedures.

Knowledge of Canadian Coast Guard Shipboard Helicopter Procedures and operations including slinging.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Willing and able to obtain a Group IV Instrument Rating when required.

Required to complete Underwater Emergency Egress Training provided by Transport Canada Aircraft Services.

Required to spend up to 6 weeks, continuous, away from base aboard ship.
