Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Vice-President and Assistant General Counsel who will provide legal and regulatory counsel to all functions of Zurich Canada.

The Vice-President and Assistant General Counsel will be part of the Corporate Law team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice-President and General Counsel.

This is a hybrid work opportunity.

What you will do -

  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and provide legal advice on a wide range of legal matters including data protection, privacy and employment law.
  • Provide advice in respect of insurance laws and regulations, including licensing matters, product development and reinsurance.
  • Assist the business in responding to Federal / Provincial regulatory consultations and data calls and also assist with the business implementation of new regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identifying key legal / regulatory risks and provide related training and support to the business.
  • Develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Federal and Provincial regulators.
  • Participate in various committees and working groups of insurance industry associations.

Job Qualifications

What you bring to the table :

Required :

  • LL.B / Juris Doctor and a member in good standing with a Canadian Professional Law Society.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the Legal area.
  • Strong corporate / commercial background together with insurance law and regulation experience in Canada.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions and legal matters simultaneously and independently prioritize work.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Preferred :

  • Insurance Industry experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • French language skills would be considered an asset.
