Mandate
The Academic and Data & Applications Adviser (ADAA) plays a dual role within the Academic Advising Centre, supporting both student advising and the effective use of advising-related information systems. The position contributes to student success by providing developmental academic advising to undergraduate students in the Faculties of Humanities, Science and Social Sciences, while also enhancing the unit’s data and technology practices. As a secondary systems contact, the ADAA ensures the integrity and usability of advising tools and data, supports staff in using those tools effectively, and contributes to communication strategies that enhance the student experience. The role strengthens the integration of academic advising and technology to advance institutional goals related to student retention, engagement, and service excellence.
Objectives
- Provide individualized academic advising that supports student decision-making and contributes to academic success and timely degree completion.
- Maintain and validate advising records and tools (e.g., CAPP reports, web content, digital displays), ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Support the development and delivery of documentation, training, and technical assistance to staff on advising systems and processes.
- Identify and implement improvements to advising tools, reporting mechanisms, and communication channels based on data insights and user feedback.
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered advising environment by integrating best practices in advising and information management.
As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience in academic advising, including experience working with student record systems and supporting the use of technology and databases. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
