Waka Mne Elementary School1 Position : High Needs Grade 1 Teacher Waka Mne Elementary School is looking for an energetic High Needs Grade 1 Teacher for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
We are looking for a teacher who can build on the current strengths of our school and is focused on providing a balanced education through the delivery of approved curriculum that is grounded in traditional Alexis Nakota Sioux teachings.
Our student population is approximately 124 from K to 6, our Native language is Nakota (Stoney) and we are located an hour northwest of the City of Edmonton and 30 minutes from the City of Spruce Grove.
The successful applicant will begin duties at the commencement of the 2024-2025 school year; a competitive salary based on qualification, skill and experience will be paid.

Following the prescribed program of studies for each subject taught. ? Plan and execute daily lessons based on short, medium and long range planning.
- Provide feedback to students and parents / guardians in a regular, timely manner. ? Champion Stoney language / culture revitalization and curriculum infusion.
- Support school-parent / guardian-community engagement. ? Possess strong interpersonal skills and commit to collaborative-decision making.
- Promote differentiated instruction to meet diversity in learning needs. Qualifications : ? Must be able to provide a TQS ?
Must hold or be able to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate. ? Preference will be given to those with experience teaching High Needs Students ?
- Qualified newly graduating individuals will be considered. ? Must possess a Bachelors of Education degree from an accredited institution;
- Must be respectful of Nakota Sioux Traditions, Knowledge and Customs; ? Preference is given to those with experience working with First Nations Children and Families;
