We are looking for a hands-on finance professional to take end-to-end ownership of the finance function of a small Canadian automotive software company as part of a larger international software group.
The role combines operational accounting, financial management, and business partnering. It is well suited for someone who enjoys working in a lean setup, prefers responsibility over hierarchy, and wants exposure to a growing software group.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Compliance
- Full ownership of accounting activities (GL, AP / AR, accruals, reconciliations);
- Month-end and year-end close;
- Preparation of statutory and management financial statements;
- GST / HST filings and other Canadian statutory requirements;
- Coordination with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors;
- Liaison with banks and relevant authorities;
- Support a clean financial setup and documentation.
- Monthly management reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow);
- Budgeting and rolling forecasts;
- Variance analysis and financial KPI tracking;
- Support ad-hoc financial analyses;
- Ensure appropriate accounting and understanding of software revenues and cost structures.
Business Partnering & Group Interaction
Act as finance partner to local management;Serve as the local finance interface to the wider group organization;Support operational and commercial decisions with financial insight;Contribute to pragmatic improvements in processes, controls, and reporting.Requirements
Strong understanding of Canadian accounting (ASPE; IFRS exposure is a plus);Hands-on accounting experience (not only supervisory);Experience in small companies, startups, or stand-alone entities;Comfort working independently and owning the full finance cycle;Understanding of software business models (licenses, subscriptions, services).Preferred
Experience in software or SaaS environments;Exposure to post-acquisition, carve-out, or asset deal situations;CPA or CPA candidate;Interest in developing into a broader finance leadership role over time;What This Role Offers
