Ballard has a regular full-time position available for a Research Scientist / Engineer (Catalyst & Catalyst Layer Developer) at our Burnaby location.
Reporting to Electrodes Manager, Research, the successful candidate will work within the Electrodes Team with research scientists and engineers to improve material stability, conduct design studies, and develop advanced anode and / or cathode catalyst layer designs.
Responsibilities :
- Develop advanced fuel cell materials with improved stability
- Develop advanced catalyst layer designs with improved durability
- Conduct experimental studies to support advanced fuel cell catalyst layer design
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of, critically analyze, and summarize fuel cell literature
- Prepare samples and operate fuel cell test stations to evaluate performance and durability of advanced concepts
- Analyze, interpret and summarize electrochemical data
- Work effectively within a research team of scientists and research engineers to accomplish technical objectives
- Troubleshoot instrument and equipment problems
Requirements :
- 3 5 years of relevant experience
- PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or relevant Engineering field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong lab skills and previous experience working in an electrochemistry and catalyst synthesis wet labs
- Experience working in an industrial Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell lab is an asset
- Familiarity with characterization and testing of PEMFC materials
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization and problem solving skills
- Proven ability to work quickly and reliably while under pressure
