Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES :

The Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting activities related to the financial reporting & management accounting processes for a division within ATS.

This role is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of the monthly financial reports, proactively providing high quality financial analysis and maintaining adequate process controls over the financial ledgers.

As a core member of the Finance team, the Financial Analyst will provide support to the leadership team for driving sustainable progress in our strategic initiatives.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ACCOUNTING

  • Prepare month end journal entries & reconciliations and analyze variances between actuals, forecasted & planned results.
  • Perform other accounting duties in all areas of the full cycle accounting processes including accounts receivable, cash management, capital assets, accruals, cost of goods sold, selling & admin expenses and taxes.
  • Responsible for the monthly reconciliation of any balance sheet accounts associated with the business unit.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the financial reporting is in accordance with IFRS.
  • Responsible for preparing audit working papers on a quarterly basis, ensuring that all accounts are reconciled.
  • Develop and / or prepare specific financial analysis as assigned by the Director, Finance.
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations and reporting & assist with other monthly Corporate reporting
  • Assist with cash forecasting & forecasting foreign cash flows for determination of hedge settlement
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Support the annual planning process by preparing budget schedules and summary reports
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing reporting and the design and development of new reporting to improve the quality of information available to senior management
  • Cross train on other finance team tasks to ensure critical financial processes are covered during periods of vacation or other absences

INTERNAL CONTROL, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Maintain the accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division, and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently.

Regularly review policies and procedures with the Controller to develop an ATS best practice approach for the financial management of the company.

Ensure the safeguarding of company assets.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Prepare financial reports & analysis for management of the business unit
  • Analyze various profit streams and identify key opportunities
  • Provide early warning of risks along with opportunities to allow accurate, timely information for business decision making including review and investigation of monthly cost variances.
  • Work with the Controller and other leadership team members to identify cost savings opportunities,
  • Maintain the financial components of the ERP systems ensuring data integrity. Provide subject matter expert support to other teams outside of finance related to the financial components of the ERP

OTHER PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED

Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives with respect to the finance processes.

Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION

EDUCATION

  • A university degree or college diploma in business and / or accounting or equivalent business experience is required
  • Hold or be working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA)

EDUCATION :

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of accounting analytical experience is preferred. Individual must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization both verbally and in written form
  • Advanced knowledge of an ERP system (preferably JD Edwards) and advanced knowledge of Excel is required
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented work environment is mandatory
  • Strong analytical, financial reporting and accounting skills as well a continuous improvement mindset are key
  • Finally, the person must be hands-on, detail oriented and able to consistently meet deadlines, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and have a willingness to get their hands dirty and to resolve complex issues.
