INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW

Duties

As a Supervisor in the new Justice Security Operations Centre (JSOC) and with the support of an Operator, you will conduct the daily operations of the JSOC under the Manager;

working in an integrated manner to ensure that Justice employees and assets benefit from a safe and secure environment, nationally.

This will be achieved through the operationalization and maintenance of leading-edge systems and tools, policies, practices and programs that effectively plan for and mitigate risks, provide employees with the appropriate level of support in emergencies or security events, and that allow the organization to successfully respond to and recover from these events.

You will be relied upon to provide leadership, advice and guidance to the team in various dynamic situations or events. Achieving this important mandate may also involve liaising with lead security agencies and government departments, first responders and other partners and stakeholders within and outside the department.

JSOC supervisors will work in a 24 / 7 rotating shift environment, days a year. Shifts can range from 8 to 12 hours.

Work environment

The Safety, Security and Emergency Management Division reports to the Director General, Corporate Services Branch who is also the Chief Security Officer.

Due to the nature of the position, the incumbent is required to work onsite. Telework opportunities are not possible for this position.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two indeterminate position and three to five casual contracts.

The intent of this inventory is to establish a pool of candidates for casual opportunities whose work may be variable on a part-time basis in consideration of their existing responsibilities.

In addition, full time, indeterminate (permanent) opportunities may be available from time to time, leading to long term Public Service careers.

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenures, various linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative only), various operational requirements and / or various conditions of employment.

EDUCATION

ED1 A diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the position being staffed (2-year educational program minimum) or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

Note : For applicants from the Canadian Armed Forces or CAF veterans, an acceptable combination of education, training and experience may resemble that of a Captain or Sergeant or above, OR a Lieutenant or Master Corporal with significant experience in an operations centre environment on domestic or expeditionary operations.

EXPERIENCE

EX1 Recent* experience working in the field of security and / or emergency management or an emergency dispatch centre environment or in the military.

Recent experience is defined as acquired within the last 5 years worked.

Experience will be assessed in terms of the depth and breadth of activities, the complexity and diversity of work handled as well as the level of autonomy demonstrated.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

AOC1 Introduction-level training (or higher) in a certified incident management system (such as Incident Command System Level or equivalent).

AEX1 Experience (minimum 1 year) working in a 24 / 7 security operations centre or equivalent.

AEX2 Experience supervising employees.

AEX3 Experience in the development and implementation of procedures related to security, emergency management, or emergency dispatch centre.

AEX4 Experience liaising with first responders such as Police, RCMP, Emergency Medical Services or Fire Department, Canadian or Allied military units, formations or Headquarters.

AEX5 Experience in developing and delivering training.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - The Top Secret security is not required upon application. It will be processed by the Department of Justice later in the selection process.
