Reporting to both the Faculty Administrator, Education and the Research Chair, the primary function of the Project Coordinator will be to assist the Chair with the administration of the research program by tracking and managing project and operational spending, research progress and achievements, employee performance and well being, and research collaborations and new opportunities.

This role will be the initial point of contact for researchers, practitioners in Saskatchewan Health Authority, communities, and government.

This position supports the CIHR Research Chair in Applied Public Health, Indigenous Wellness, and Health Equity. The chair is committed to upholding research protocols with Indigenous Peoples in Saskatchewan and beyond and is dedicated to advancing public health research focusing on Indigenous wellness and health equity.

This chair aims to foster innovative, community-driven research that integrates Indigenous knowledge systems and promotes holistic well-being.

Through engagement with Indigenous communities and partners, the successful candidate will support research activities focused on the needs and priorities of the Research Chair.

What You’ll Do :

Monitor budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities to guarantee accuracy, proper revenue recording, and adherence to budget constraints.

Ensuring all fiscal practices comply with established standards.

  • Prepare annual and mid-year budget estimates. Collaborating with the Research Office administrative staff on payroll management and procurement activities.
  • Develop staffing plans for major research initiatives, participating in the recruitment process for new staff, and providing support for graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and research assistants.
  • Build, maintain and facilitate partnerships with external partners.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement.
  • The research activities involve a network of partners and collaborators from academia, Indigenous communities, and the health sector.

The Project Coordinator will maintain contact with external partners and coordinate and participate in meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars and information sessions (including meetings the Chair cannot attend).

  • The Project Coordinator will work with the Office of Research Partnerships and Innovation to develop partnership agreements and funding contracts and oversee their implementation.
  • Supporting the Chair in managing all aspects of data collection, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality, analyzing data to interpret results, and preparing reports and publications.
  • Take a lead role in communications by drafting regular reports informing stakeholders of project progress and outcomes.

Collaborating with the Research Office to maintain and update the web page, ensuring that all information is current and accurately reflects ongoing activities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Indigenous Studies, or related field
  • 3-5 years related experience.
  • A certificate in Project Management would be considered an asset.
  • A certificate in Cultural Competency Training would be considered an asset.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role :

  • Understanding of Indigenous Health Issues : In-depth knowledge of Indigenous populations’ health challenges and disparities derived from academic study and practical, community-engaged research.
  • Extensive knowledge of cultural protocols when working with Indigenous Elders and communities, ensuring respectful and meaningful engagement.

This involves understanding the historical and socio-political contexts that impact these communities.

  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies is suitable for community-based research settings. Knowledge of participatory research methods that involve community members in the research process to ensure relevance and accuracy.
  • Ability to navigate complex project requirements, timelines, and budgets.
  • Familiarity with ethical guidelines for research involving human subjects, particularly those about Indigenous peoples
